Changes in the cellular immune system and circulating inflammatory markers of stroke patients.
This study was designed to investigate dynamic changes in the cellular immune system and circulating inflammatory markers after ischemic stroke. Blood was collected from 96 patients and 99 age-matched control subjects for detection of lymphocyte subpopulations and inflammatory markers. We observed decreases in B cells, Th cells, cytotoxic T cells, and NK cells and an increase in regulatory T (Treg) cells in stroke patients on days 1, 3, and 7. Circulating long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid and incidence of stroke: a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies.
CONCLUSIONS: Circulating LC n-3 PUFAs were linearly associated with reduced risk of stroke, especially 22:5n-3 and 22:6n-3. Such findings highlight the importance of circulating LC n-3 PUFA in the development of ischemic stroke. PMID: 28767407 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Ischemic stroke in patients with POEMS syndrome: a case report and comprehensive analysis of literature.
Conclusion: Comprehensive analysis of literature revealed several trends in patients with ischemic stroke and POEMS syndrome including a low survival rate and a preponderance of cerebral vasculopathy and multiple cerebral arteries affected. Ischemic stroke may be a poor outcome predictor in patients with POEMS syndrome. Association analysis of APO gene polymorphisms with ischemic stroke risk: a case-control study in a Chinese Han population.
This study aimed to assess the association of APO gene polymorphisms and ischemic stroke risk in a Chinese Han population. In this case-control study, we genotyped 14 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 3 APO genes in 488 cases and 503 controls using Sequenom Mass-ARRAY technology and evaluated their association with ischemic stroke using the χ2 and genetic model analysis. Influenza vaccination might reduce the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation: A population-based cohort study.
Conclusions: Influenza vaccination might exert a dose-response effect against ischemic stroke in patients with AF who have risk factors for ischemic stroke by reducing the incidence of ischemic stroke, particularly in those aged 65-74 and ≥75 y. PMID: 29348857 [PubMed]

Dietary cholesterol intake and stroke risk: a meta-analysis.
Conclusions: Higher cholesterol intake has no association with the overall stroke risk. Age and body mass index affect the relationship between dietary cholesterol intake and stroke risk. Antibiotic prophylaxis for infections in patients with acute stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Potential specific immunological indicators for stroke associated infection are partly modulated by sympathetic pathway activation.
CONCLUSION: IL-6, IL-10 and HLA-DR are good candidate biomarkers for SAI. The activation of the sympathetic pathway could partly account for the specific immunological alterations found in SAI patients including HLA-DR decrease and IL-10 increase, which both could be reversed by propranolol. Relationship of thyroid function with intracranial arterial stenosis and carotid atheromatous plaques in ischemic stroke patients with euthyroidism.

Effect of the asthma-chronic obstructive pulmonary disease syndrome on the stroke, Parkinson's disease, and dementia: a national cohort study.
