Dabigatran vs. Aspirin for Secondary Prevention After Embolic Stroke of Undetermined Source - Japanese Subanalysis of the RE-SPECT ESUS Randomized Controlled Trial.
CONCLUSIONS: Dabigatran was putatively associated with a lower relative risk of recurrent stroke compared with aspirin in Japanese ESUS patients. PMID: 33132228 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Impact of Elevated D-Dimer on Diagnosis of Acute Aortic Dissection With Isolated Neurological Symptoms in Ischemic Stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: d-dimer might be a useful marker for the early diagnosis of AAD with isolated neurological symptoms in ischemic stroke patients. Whole-body contrast-enhanced computed tomography should be performed in ischemic stroke patients who have high d-dimer. PMID: 25993997 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Early Administration of Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants for Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients With Atrial Fibrillation in Comparison With Warfarin Mostly Combined With Heparin.
Conclusions:This study suggests that NOACs are suitable for AIS patients with Af, perhaps even better than warfarin, given their simplicity. PMID: 25736910 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Safety and Efficacy of Simultaneous Biplane Mode of 3-Dimensional Transesophageal Echocardiography-Guided Antegrade Multiple-Inflation Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty in Patients With Severe Aortic Stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Biplane-TEE guided antegrade multiple-inflation BAV might have the potential to improve periprocedural survival without increasing complications, compared with conventional retrograde BAV in patients with severe AS. PMID: 28163283 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Incidence and Distribution of Cerebral Embolism After Cardiac Surgery According to the Systemic Perfusion Strategy - A Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study.
CONCLUSIONS: According to the results of postoperative DW-MRI, retrograde perfusion itself might not increase the incidence of postoperative cerebral embolism in properly selected cardiac surgery patients undergoing routine preoperative CTA examination. PMID: 31776305 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty Improves Biventricular Functions and Pulmonary Flow in Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension.
CONCLUSIONS: BPA improves biventricular functions and pulmonary flow in patients with inoperable CTEPH. PMID: 27097557 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Association of Kidney Dysfunction With Asymptomatic Cerebrovascular Abnormalities in a Japanese Population With Health Checkups.
CONCLUSIONS: Decreased eGFR and proteinuria were independent risk factors for asymptomatic abnormalities on carotid US and brain MRI, which are surrogate markers for cerebrovascular diseases. Evaluation of these abnormalities may be useful for prevention of symptomatic cerebrovascular events in CKD patients. PMID: 28420817 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Assessment of Left Ventricular Function and Mass on Free-Breathing Compressed Sensing Real-Time Cine Imaging.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite underestimation of LV mass, FB CS cine MRI is a clinically useful alternative to BH standard cine MRI in patients with impaired BH capacity. PMID: 28515392 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
