Impact of thrice-weekly cotrimoxazole prophylaxis on creatinine and potassium plasma levels in kidney transplant recipients
CONCLUSIONS: Our study pinpoints the impact of CTX 800/160 thrice-weekly on creatinine and potassium levels in kidney transplant recipients. This should be considered when interpreting the evolution of plasma creatinine over time, especially in patients with graft dysfunction. Thus, creatinine levels of cohorts with 6 months versus lifelong CTX require different interpretations.PMID:37715935 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01773-y

Standardized, risk-adapted induction therapy in kidney transplantation
CONCLUSIONS: Our strategy offers facilitated and individualized choice of induction therapy in kidney transplantation. We propose further evaluation of our algorithm in prospective trials.PMID:37688753 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01746-1

Dialysis after kidney transplant failure: how to deal with this daunting task?
J Nephrol. 2023 Sep 7. doi: 10.1007/s40620-023-01758-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe best treatment for patients with end-stage kidney disease is kidney transplantation, which, if successful provides both a reduction in mortality and a better quality of life compared to dialysis. Although there has been significant improvement in short-term outcomes after kidney transplantation, long-term graft survival still remains insufficient. As a result, there has been an increase in the number of individuals who need dialysis again after kidney transplant failure, and increasingly contribute to kidney transplant waiting lists. ...

Identifying the barriers to kidney transplantation for patients in rural and remote areas: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: Patients in regional, rural, and remote areas face many additional barriers to kidney transplantation, which are predominantly associated with the need to travel or relocate to access required medical testing and transplantation facilities.PMID:37656389 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01755-0

Current trends in hospice care usage for dialysis patients in the USA
CONCLUSIONS: Approximately one in every four patients with kidney failure who died between 2012 and 2019 had a history of hospice enrollment, while one in every 12 discontinued dialysis before death without hospice enrollment. There was an upward trend in the duration of hospice care.PMID:37556052 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01721-w

Parenthood in people with kidney failure: evolution and evaluation of completeness of ANZDATA registry parenthood data
CONCLUSION: Our findings underpin the robustness of the ANZDATA parenthood dataset but also highlight that more detailed clinical data can be difficult to capture, despite enabling better understanding of drivers of outcomes and risk stratification in this high-risk cohort. To overcome current limitations, strategies must be implemented to augment data completeness.PMID:37556051 | DOI:10.1007/s40620-023-01696-8
