Early Results after Aortic Valve Replacement Using Last Generation Bioprosthetic Aortic Valve
CONCLUSION: The use of the INSPIRIS RESILIA aortic valve in a young, low-risk population is safe and associated with very good early clinical and hemodynamic outcomes.PMID:34962472 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.4189

Comparative Efficacy of Local and General Anesthesia for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: For TAVI, both LA with or without sedation and GA are feasible and safe. LA appears a feasible alternative to GA for AS patients undergoing TAVI.PMID:35787764 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.4631

Ringless alfieri mitral valve repair for significant ischemic mitral regurgitation with coronary artery bypass grafting.
Conclusions: Alfieri mitral valve repair is associated with lower risks of mortality, postoperative stroke, and prolonged intensive care unit and hospital stays. Alfieri mitral valve repair and concomitant CABG surgery can be performed in patients with IMR. PMID: 23958527 [PubMed - in process]

Rethinking the Paradigm: Modern Approach to Proximal Aortic Reconstruction Demonstrates Excellent Outcomes.
CONCLUSION: Elective surgery for aneurysm of the proximal aorta is safe, reproducible, and is associated with outcomes that are superior to those seen in an acute aortic syndrome. It may be appropriate to offer surgery to younger patients with proximal aortic aneurysms at smaller diameters, even if their aortic dimensions do not yet meet traditional guidelines for surgical intervention. Hemodynamic Consequence of Different Pacing Modes after Aortic Valve Replacement.
CONCLUSION: An increase in the heart rate does not lead to a notable drop in SV postoperatively in left-ventricular hypertrophy; hence a rise in cardiac output can be anticipated up to a rate of 100 beats/min. A standardized response in terms of an ideal pacemaker stimulation mode could not be identified. PMID: 29658865 [PubMed - in process]

Poor Outcome of Surgical Management of Acute Malfunctioning Mechanical Mitral Valve During Pregnancy. Should Centers with Limited Resources Find Different Options?
CONCLUSION: Acute malfunctioning MHV during pregnancy represents a real dilemma to patients and caregivers. It carries high fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality, especially in centers with limited resources. We believe that an alternative plane must be formulated for such patients to avoid devastating complications, including maternal and fetal deaths. PMID: 31596721 [PubMed - in process]

A Comparative Study of TAVR versus SAVR in Moderate and High-Risk Surgical Patients: Hospital Outcome and Midterm Results.
CONCLUSION: In this study, we could not detect an advantage in survival when SAVR or TAVR were utilized in intermediate to high surgical risk patients needing aortic valve replacement for severe aortic stenosis. PMID: 31596707 [PubMed - in process]

A Multi Center Experience: Is Valve Replacement Safe for Patients with Hugely Dilated Left Ventricle?
CONCLUSION: Valve replacement in patients with hugely dilated left ventricle are safe operations with satisfactory outcomes even if combined with other procedures, especially with proper preoperative preparation, intraoperative preservation of posterior mitral leaflet, and meticulous postoperative follow up in the surgical ICU. TAVR in Patients on Hemodialysis: Outcome of A High-Risk Patient Group.
CONCLUSION: A high number of patients with ESRD undergoing TAVR require a non-transfemoral access. Predominantly, bleeding events contribute to the perioperative morbidity. An estimated median survival of less than two years after TAVR allows only limited assessment of valve prosthesis durability. Cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular mortality contribute equally to the causes of death beyond the first year after TAVR. PMID: 32990575 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

General Anesthesia Increased the Risk of Atrial Fibrillation and Acute Kidney Injury in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
CONCLUSION: GA was associated with higher rates of ICU admission, postoperative AKI, and new-onset AF. The results may provide new evidence that CS challenges universal GA.PMID:33635259 | DOI:10.1532/hsf.3361
