Auxiliary Partial Orthotopic Liver Transplant as a Rescue Procedure for Acute Liver Failure with Extra-Small-for-Size Grafts: A Report of 2 Cases
We present 2 cases of acute liver failure treated with auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant using an extra-small-for-size graft. The first case was a 12-year-old female patient who presented with druginduced acute liver failure and required an auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant with an extra-small left lobe graft (graft-to-recipient weight ratio of 0.45). The second case was a 23-year-old male patient with acute liver failure of unknown etiology who underwent an auxiliary partial orthotopic liver transplant with a small right lobe graft (graft-torecipient weight ratio of 0.5). In both cases, computed to...

Synchronous Donor Heart and Lung Procurement Does Not Impair Outcomes After Heart Transplant
CONCLUSIONS: Our study confirms that synchronous heart and lung procurement for transplant is not associated with worse outcomes in heart transplant recipients and that hearts originating from heart-andlung donors may even be associated with improved outcomes.PMID:37698403 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0151

Development of a Composite Recipient Comorbidity and Demographic Index for Predicting In-Hospital Mortality in Heart Transplant Patients
CONCLUSIONS: The Elixhauser Comorbidity Index is an effective measure to predict in-hospital mortality after heart transplant. The improved measure adjusted index could be used as a standardized composite score to account for recipient comorbidity and demographics across clinical studies.PMID:37698402 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0134

Comparative Analysis of Donor Liver Allograft Outcomes in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients Who Underwent Liver Transplant
CONCLUSIONS: Similar outcomes can be achieved for hepatocellular carcinoma patients who undergo liver transplant with donations after brain death, donations after cardiac death, or donations after brain and cardiac death allografts, especially when strict donor selection criteria are applied.PMID:37698401 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0119

Investigation of the Association Between ITPA Gene 94C & gt;A Sequence Variant and Kidney Transplant Rejection in Iranian Kidney Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSIONS: We observed no significant differences between rejection and nonrejection transplant. Further studies are recommended, in a larger population and with different ethnicities.PMID:37698399 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0066

Ureterovesical Leak Following Renal Transplant and Effects of Acute Rejection and Antirejection Therapy: A Nested Case-Control Analysis and Outcome of 1102 Consecutive Renal Transplant Recipients
CONCLUSIONS: Nontechnical risk factors that cause posttransplant ureteric leak include older donor and recipient age and ABO incompatible and 6/6 HLA mismatch transplants. Acute rejection and plasmapheresis predispose leak, and an indwelling double J stent can allow adequate healing of the anastomosis. High index of suspicion and prompt management are imperative to preserve graft and patient outcome.PMID:37698398 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0004

Corticosteroid Dose in Kidney Transplantation and Its Effect on Surgical Complication: A Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: We investigated the potential benefits of reducing the dose of corticosteroids following kidney transplant. Findings suggested thatreducing the dose of corticosteroids following kidney transplant might be a viable strategy for minimizing the risk of surgical complications. However, it is essential to note that the optimal dosage and duration of corticosteroid therapy after kidney transplant may vary for each patient and should be carefully determined by the health care provider.PMID:37698397 | DOI:10.6002/ect.2023.0198
