Phenylethanoid glycosides derived from Cistanche deserticola promote neurological functions and the proliferation of neural stem cells for improving ischemic stroke
This study aims to investigate whether PhGs treatment improves the stroke and its potential mechanisms. Adult male C57BL/6 J mice were administrated PhGs once daily for 7 days after MCAO surgery. The neurological score, and catwalk were evaluated on Day 1, 3 and 7 after ischemic stroke. Furthermore, triphenyl-2,3,5-tetrazoliumchloride (TTC) and hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) staining were used for evaluating the infarct volume and neuronal restoration. The effects of PhGs on NSCs proliferation were investigated in vitro and in vivo. Western blot was used to detect the proteins of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. This study f...

Danhong injection improves neurological function in rats with ischemic stroke by enhancing neurogenesis and activating BDNF/AKT/CREB signaling pathway
In this study, we aimed to determine the effect of DHI on long-term neurological function recovery after cerebral ischemia and explored the related mechanisms. Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) was used to establish an IS model in rats. The efficacy of DHI was assessed using neurological severity scores, behaviors, cerebral infarction volume and histopathology. Immunofluorescence staining was performed to assess hippocampal neurogenesis. An in vitro oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) cell model was constructed and western-blot analyses were performed to verify the underlying mechanisms. Our results show...

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases: From mechanisms to therapy
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 May 2;163:114817. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.114817. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs) remain an intractable problem and have high morbidity and mortality worldwide, as well as substantial health and economic burdens, representing an urgent clinical need. In recent years, the focus of research has shifted from the use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for transplantation to the use of their secretory exosomes (MSC-exosomes) for the treatment of numerous CVDs, including atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction (MI), heart failure (HF), ischemia/reperfusio...

Dental pulp stem cell transplantation facilitates neuronal neuroprotection following cerebral ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: DPSC therapy via intracranial injection exerted remarkably neuroprotection mainly by inhibiting neuronal death/apoptosis.PMID:35689857 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2022.113234

Enhancement of angiogenesis and neurogenesis by intracerebroventricular injection of secretome from human embryonic stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells in ischemic stroke model
This study suggests that the therapeutic benefits of CM obtained from hESC-MSCs at least partly are mediated through improved neurogenesis and angiogenesis to accelerate the recovery of cerebral ischemia insult.PMID:34020250 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2021.111709

Medical prevention and treatment of radiation-induced carotid injury.
Abstract Radiotherapy has significantly improved the survival of cancer patients but is also associated with several adversities, including radiation-induced carotid injury (RICI). The RICI mechanisms are complex, including vessel inflammatory injury, carotid atherosclerosis, intimal proliferation, media necrosis, and peri-adventitial fibrosis. The main manifestation and adverse consequence of RICI is carotid artery stenosis (CAS), which can lead to stroke and transient ischemic attack. Currently, carotid artery injury is primarily diagnosed via color-coded duplex sonography. Early detection of traumatic changes i...

Astragaloside IV improves neurobehavior and promotes hippocampal neurogenesis in MCAO rats though BDNF-TrkB signaling pathway.
In this study, the neurobehavioral tests (Ludmila Belayev 12-point scoring, Screen test, fore limb placing test) had been employed to investigate the effect of AST treatment against functional deficit of MCAO rats. The immunofluorescence staining, western-blot and qRT-PCR was performed to evaluate the effects of AST on proliferation, differentiation and maturity of neural stemr cells in hippocampus. Moreover, we investigated the possible mechanism of the AST treatment in promoting neurogenesis after ischemic stroke. The findings indicated that AST treatment ameliorated the neurobehavior of MCAO rats. The results indicated ...
