Use of Secondary Iliac Branch Devices after Previous Endovascular Abdominal and Thoraco-Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair < sup > † < /sup >
CONCLUSION: Secondary IBD after EVAR is a safe and effective procedure with high technical success and low complication rates. The technique of choice to revascularise the IIA seems to not affect early and follow up results. Long term durability of IBD repair is acceptable with low rates of IIA re-interventions.PMID:36707020 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.033

Optimal Management of Asymptomatic Carotid Artery Stenosis: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: Modern BMT demonstrates similar reductions in major stroke, combined stroke, and mortality to CEA. The overall risk reductions are low and data were unavailable to assess subgroups which may benefit from intervention. However, BMT carries the potential to reduce the requirement for surgical intervention in patients with ACAS.PMID:36682406 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.020

Prevalence of peripheral arterial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and risk factors in the Hamburg City Health Study: A Cross-Sectional Analysis
CONCLUSION: In this large population-based cohort study of 10,000 subjects from Hamburg, Germany, a strikingly high prevalence of PAD was revealed. Almost 45% suffered from any index disease, while AAA was only diagnosed in 1.3% of males and 0.2% of females. The high prevalence of atherosclerotic disease and associated cardiovascular risk factors underline that it is essential to increase awareness and fuel efforts for secondary prevention.PMID:36634745 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2023.01.002

Nationwide outcome analysis of primary carotid endarterectomy in symptomatic patients depending on closure technique and patch type
CONCLUSIONS: There was an increased risk of ipsilateral stroke <30days in patients operated with primary closure compared to eversion-CEA and patch angioplasty. There was no difference between primary closure, different patch types or eversion after the perioperative phase.PMID:36603661 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2022.12.033

Locoregional anaesthesia and intraoperative angiography in carotid endarterectomy - 16-year results of a consecutive single-centre series
CONCLUSIONS: These data demonstrate a decline in the combined rates of any in-hospital major stroke or death after non-emergent CEA over time. Locoregional anaesthesia and intraoperative quality control were associated with these improvements and might be worthwhile in elective CEA.PMID:36229016 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2022.10.002

Multivariable analysis of preoperative brain atrophy as a predictor of long-term mortality after carotid endarterectomy
CONCLUSION: Brain atrophy independently predicts long-term postoperative mortality after carotid endarterectomy in a cohort containing mainly symptomatic patients. Future studies are needed to validate the results in prospective settings and in asymptomatic patients.PMID:36209966 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejvs.2022.10.001
