Prognostic Factors for Survival After Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Cardiogenic Shock
The aim of this study is to examine factors that can predict mortality in patients that have veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) instituted for cardiogenic shock. A single-center, retrospective study of 127 patients who underwent VA-ECMO for cardiogenic shock between January 2003 and December 2017 was conducted. Eighty-three (65%) patients survived to weaning or bridging therapy. Complications on VA-ECMO include: hemorrhage (40%), stroke (14%), requirement for dialysis (42%), and limb ischemia (24%). Preservation of Native Aortic Valve Flow and Full Hemodynamic Support with the TORVAD Using a Computational Model of the Cardiovascular System
This article describes the stroke volume selection and operational design for the toroidal ventricular assist device (TORVAD), a synchronous, positive-displacement ventricular assist device (VAD). A lumped parameter model was used to simulate hemodynamics with the TORVAD compared with those under continuous-flow VAD support. Hemodynamic Effects of Left Atrial or Left Ventricular Cannulation for Acute Circulatory Support in a Bovine Model of Left Heart Injury
Our objective was to examine the hemodynamic effects of a trans-aortic axial flow catheter (Impella CP) in the left ventricle (LV) versus left atrial (LA) to femoral artery bypass using a centrifugal pump (TandemHeart: TH) in a bovine model of acute LV injury. Experimental Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Induces Left Ventricular Dysfunction

Incidence and Outcomes of Postoperative Atrial Fibrillation After Left Ventricular Assist Device
This study sought to determine the incidence, predictors, and outcomes of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) in patients undergoing implantation of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). A retrospective analysis of all patients who underwent LVAD implantation from 2013 to 2014 was conducted. Postoperative AF, survival, and thrombotic complications were evaluated after surgery. Apixaban: Alternative Anticoagulation for HeartMate 3 Ventricular Assist Device
