Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Women With and Without Breast Cancer: The Pathways Heart Study
CONCLUSION: Women with BC had increased incidence of CVD events, CVD-related mortality, and all-cause mortality compared with women without BC, and risks varied according to the history of cancer treatment received. Studies are needed to determine how women who received BC treatment should be cared for to improve cardiovascular outcomes.PMID:35385342 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.21.01736

Oncological Benefit versus Cardiovascular Risk in Breast Cancer Patients Treated with Modern Radiotherapy
J Clin Med. 2022 Jul 4;11(13):3889. doi: 10.3390/jcm11133889.ABSTRACTRadiotherapy (RT) is an essential part of breast cancer (BC) treatments. Unfortunately, heart exposure to radiation can also impair the long-term survival of patients. Our study aimed to quantify the oncological benefit and the cardiovascular (CV) risk associated with modern RT in a real-world cohort of BC patients. Our descriptive study enrolled BC patients who received adjuvant RT. Ten-year overall survival (OS) was estimated using Predict® version 2.1 (National Health Service, London, UK). The basal risk of CV events was estimated using the American H...

Predicted cardiac and second cancer risks for patients undergoing VMAT for mediastinal Hodgkin lymphoma
CONCLUSION: For patients with mediastinal lymphoma excess mortality risks from CVD and second cancers remain clinically significant despite contemporary chemotherapy and photon-RT. Efforts to reduce the toxicity of combined modality treatment, for example, using DIBH, reduced margins and advanced RT, e.g. proton beam therapy, should be continued to further reduce potentially fatal treatment effects.PMID:36585562 | DOI:10.1007/s12094-022-03034-z

Unknown Causes of Death in Cancer Patients
CONCLUSION: Of the patients, 7.4% died of unknown causes during follow-up and the proportion of death was higher with longer follow-up and among more indolent cancers. The attribution of high percentages of unknown COD to cancer or non-cancer causes could impact population-based cancer registry studies or clinical trial outcomes with respect to measures involving CSS and mortality.PMID:37038261 | DOI:10.1097/COC.0000000000001003

Long-term effectiveness, outcomes and complications of bariatric surgery
World J Clin Cases. 2023 Jul 6;11(19):4504-4512. doi: 10.12998/wjcc.v11.i19.4504.ABSTRACTDietary imbalance and overeating can lead to an increasingly widespread disease - obesity. Aesthetic considerations aside, obesity is defined as an excess of adipose tissue that can lead to serious health problems and can predispose to a number of pathological changes and clinical diseases, including diabetes; hypertension; atherosclerosis; coronary artery disease and stroke; obstructive sleep apnea; depression; weight-related arthropathies and endometrial and breast cancer. A body weight 20% above ideal for age, gender and height is a...
