Neuroprotective effect of Astragali Radix on cerebral infarction based on proteomics
Conclusion: This study found that AR can significantly recover the clinical symptoms of CI. Serum proteomics research results show that AR may act on IL-6, TNF-α, VCAM-1, MCP-1, and ICAM-1, and play anti-atherosclerosis and neuroprotective roles. Clinical Trial Registration: [clinicaltrials.gov], identifier [NCT02846207].PMID:37361203 | PMC:PMC10289882 | DOI:10.3389/fphar.2023.1162134

Exploration of the etiology of single small subcortical infarctions using high-resolution vessel wall MRI
CONCLUSIONS: SSI with and without plaques on the carrier artery may have different modes of pathogenesis. Patients with plaques may also have a coexisting mechanism of atherosclerosis.PMID:37360343 | PMC:PMC10289301 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2023.1179730

Insulin Regulation of Hepatic Lipid Homeostasis
Compr Physiol. 2023 Jun 26;13(3):4785-4809. doi: 10.1002/cphy.c220015.ABSTRACTThe incidence of obesity, insulin resistance, and type II diabetes (T2DM) continues to rise worldwide. The liver is a central insulin-responsive metabolic organ that governs whole-body metabolic homeostasis. Therefore, defining the mechanisms underlying insulin action in the liver is essential to our understanding of the pathogenesis of insulin resistance. During periods of fasting, the liver catabolizes fatty acids and stored glycogen to meet the metabolic demands of the body. In postprandial conditions, insulin signals to the liver to store exc...

Viz LVO versus Rapid LVO in detection of large vessel occlusion on CT angiography for acute stroke
CONCLUSION: Rapid LVO produced a significantly larger number of false positive values that may contribute to alarm desensitization, leading to missed alarms or delayed responses. EF and intracranial atherosclerosis were significant predictors of incorrect predictions.PMID:37355255 | DOI:10.1136/jnis-2023-020445

Accelerated measurement of carotid plaque volume using artificial intelligence enhanced 3D ultrasound
CONCLUSION: Auto-CPV assessment is accurate, reproducible and significantly faster than manual planimetry. Improved feasibility means that the utility of CPV can be assessed in large population studies to stratify risk in asymptomatic carotid disease or assess response to medical treatment.PMID:37355020 | DOI:10.1016/j.avsg.2023.06.018

Prescriptive behavior of non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants in patients affected by atrial fibrillation in general practice
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Jun 21;165:115020. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115020. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common cardiac arrhythmia worldwide and in recent years the pharmacological approach has been strongly implemented; in Italy, the prescription of the non-vitamin K oral anticoagulants (NOAC) was also extended to General Practitioners (GPs) since 2020. The aim of the present study was to investigate the GPs prescribing behaviour of NOACs. An observational study was performed by using the computerized medical record of 14 GPs in Sicily: patients affected by AF were selected and st...

Increased plasma levels of circPTP4A2 and circTLK2 are associated with stroke injury
Ann Clin Transl Neurol. 2023 Jun 23. doi: 10.1002/acn3.51837. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOBJECTIVE: Accumulating studies have shown that circulating circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent novel biomarkers for many human diseases. We investigated whether plasma circPTP4A2 and circTLK2 levels are associated with stroke severity, infarct volume, stroke etiology, and functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients.METHODS: We applied quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) to measure plasma circPTP4A2 and circTLK2 levels of 236 AIS patients within 72 h of symptoms onset and 136 healthy controls. We further assessed the Nat...

JAK2 V617F Mutation and Large Cerebral Artery Disease in Patients with Myeloproliferative Neoplasms
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed a significant association between the JAK2 V617F mutation and LCAD in patients with MPNs. This suggests that the JAK2 V617F mutation may promote cerebrovascular atherosclerosis and could be very important in determining therapeutic strategies for patients with not only JAK2 V617F-mutated MPNs but also LCAD-related stroke.PMID:37344447 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64118

Association of Homocysteine with Acute Stroke and Its Subtypes in the Chinese Population
CONCLUSION: Plasma Hcy levels were found to be positively correlated with the risk of stroke, particularly in the context of LAA, SAO stroke, and HICH. Additionally, Hcy levels demonstrated a positive correlation with stroke severity in patients presenting with SAO stroke. These findings suggest potential clinical implications in stroke prevention, particularly for ischemic stroke (LAA, SAO subtypes) and HICH by employing homocysteine-lowering therapies. Future investigations are warranted to fully elucidate these associations.PMID:37342757 | PMC:PMC10278861 | DOI:10.2147/NDT.S409591

Association Between CYP2C19 Genotypes With Clinical Phenotypes and Adipokine Levels Among Ischemic Stroke Patients: A Prospective Observational Study
Conclusion CYP2C19 polymorphisms may play a significant role in the pathogenesis of stroke. Leptin could serve as a prominent biomarker of atherosclerosis and inflammation in the early post-stroke period; however, further study is warranted with a larger sample size.PMID:37342754 | PMC:PMC10278952 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.39265
