Thoracic Aortic < sup > 18 < /sup > F-Sodium Fluoride Activity and Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Established Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with established cardiovascular disease, thoracic aortic 18F-sodium fluoride activity is associated with the progression of atherosclerosis and future ischemic stroke. Arterial 18F-sodium fluoride activity identifies localized areas of atherosclerotic disease activity that are directly linked to disease progression and downstream regional clinical atherothrombotic events. Quantitative CTA vascular calcification, atherosclerosis burden, and stroke mechanism in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSION: Atherosclerosis calcium volumes in major vessels were significantly higher in LAA compared to non-LAA stroke in younger age.PMID:37148773 | DOI:10.1016/j.jns.2023.120667

Association of DNA Methylation Patterns in 7 Novel Genes With Ischemic Stroke in the Northern Chinese Population
Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that DNA methylation plays a crucial part in ischemic stroke. The methylation of these 7 genes may be potential diagnostic biomarker for ischemic stroke.PMID:35480311 | PMC:PMC9035884 | DOI:10.3389/fgene.2022.844141

Olive oil consumption is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Olive oil is associated with lower risk of CVD and stroke. The maximum benefit could be obtained with a consumption between 20 and 30 g/day. The association could be stronger for virgin olive oil and might operate from the early stages of the disease.PMID:34872046 | DOI:10.1016/j.clnu.2021.11.002

Association between Fok1 and TaqI polymorphisms of vitamin D receptor gene with the severity of stenosis and calcification in carotid bulb in patients with ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: There may be a biological association between the FokI VDR gene and carotid bulb calcification.PMID:35091316 | DOI:10.1016/j.jocn.2022.01.009

Subclinical Vascular Composites Predict Clinical Cardiovascular Disease, Stroke, and Dementia: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA)
CONCLUSIONS: Subclinical vascular composites of arteriosclerosis and atherosclerosis may be useful biomarkers to inform the vascular pathways contributing to events of CVD, CHD, stroke, and dementia.PMID:37205504 | PMC:PMC10187443 | DOI:10.1101/2023.05.01.23289364

Mitral annular calcification as a predictor of stroke in the multiethnic study of atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: MAC is an independent predictor of long-term stroke risk in a racially diverse population beyond conventional cardiovascular risk factors and atrial fibrillation.PMID:37409651 | DOI:10.2459/JCM.0000000000001524

Arterial Calcification and Its Association With Stroke: Implication of Risk, Prognosis, Treatment Response, and Prevention
Front Cell Neurosci. 2022 May 11;16:845215. doi: 10.3389/fncel.2022.845215. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTStroke is a leading cause of death worldwide. Vascular calcification (VC), defined as deposition of calcium-phosphate complexes in the vessels, is considered as the characteristic of vascular aging. Calcifications at different vessel layers have different implications. Intimal calcification is closely related to atherosclerosis and affects plaque stability, while medial calcification can cause arterial stiffening and reduce compliance. Accumulating evidence suggested that arterial calcifications, including calcifications in...
