Cognitive and Behavioral Disorders in Patients with Precuneal Infarcts
Conclusions: This study showed a wide variety of neuropsychological and behavioral disorders in patients with precuneal infarct. Future studies are needed to achieve a proper definition of the function of the precuneus in relation to the extended cortical areas. PC region infarcts have been found to predict a source of embolism from the large arteries or heart.Eur Neurol

Ultrastructural Changes of Brain Tissues Surrounding Hematomas after Intracerebral Hemorrhage
In this study, cerebral ultrastructure surrounding hematoma and its correlation with clinical severity were investigated in ICH patients. Thirty patients with basal ganglia hemorrhage and 6 control subjects were enrolled. Surgical evacuation was performed for patients with a blood loss>30 ml. Stroke severity was assessed using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was used to evaluate the ultrastructural characteristics of tissue specimens. Neural cells surrounding the hematomas showed evidence of cell swelling and necrosis. Decreased ...

Thalamic Lesions Caused by Deep Cerebral Venous Thrombosis: A Retrospective Study
Conclusion: Thalamic lesion can be caused by DCVT with neuropsychological and radiological features that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of intracranial artery occlusion or bleeding, especially in young patients. In this small group, most patients survived with few or mild defects.Eur Neurol 2015;74:118-126

Decompressive Hemicraniectomy in Malignant Middle Cerebral Artery Infarction: The ‘Real World' Beyond Studies
Conclusions: DHC is a life-saving technique in patients with MMI, but complications are frequent, were underestimated in randomized clinical trials and may worsen the functional outcome.Eur Neurol 2016;76:48-56

Silent Coronary Artery Disease in Symptomatic Candidates for Carotid Revascularization Intervention
Conclusions: About 60% of stroke patients with extracranial CAS have an incident CAD. Hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and the atherosclerotic changes of combined extracranial carotid and intracranial arteries may increase the risk of asymptomatic CAD in symptomatic candidates for carotid revascularization intervention.Eur Neurol 2016;76:69-74

Cognitive Function and Prognosis of Multimodal Neuroimage-Guided Thrombectomy on Mild to Moderate Anterior Circulation Infarction Patients with Broadened Therapeutic Window: A Prospective Study
Conclusions: The current prospective study demonstrated that mechanical thrombectomy can significantly improve neurological and cognitive functions in patients with mild to moderate AIS at broadened therapeutic window under multimodal CT and multimodal MRI imaging.Eur Neurol 2017;78:257 –263

Accelerated MR Evaluation of Patients with Suspected Large Arterial Vessel Occlusion: Diagnostic Performances of the FLAIR Vessel Hyperintensities
Conclusion: We found that FVH demonstrated excellent diagnostic performances for the identification of LVO and its level with good to excellent reproducibility. This MRI radio marker of occlusion provides additional arguments and may speed-up the detection of potential candidates for MT.Eur Neurol

The Merging Tracks of Anosognosia and Neglect
Anosognosia and hemineglect are among the most startling neurological phenomena identified during the 20th century. Though both are associated with right hemisphere cerebral dysfunction, notably stroke, each disorder had its own distinct literature. Anosognosia, as coined by Babinski in 1914, describes patients who seem to have no idea of their paralysis, despite general cognitive preservation. Certain patients seem more than unaware, with apparent resistance to awareness. More extreme, and qualitatively distinct, is denial of hemiplegia. Various interpretations of pathogenesis are still deliberated. As accounts of its cap...

Assessment of Patients with Intracerebral Hemorrhage or Hemorrhagic Transformation in the VENOST Study
Conclusion: CVST, an important cause of stroke in the young, should be monitored closely if the patients have additional symptoms of headache, multiple sinus involvement, and CH. Older age and parenchymal lesion, either hemorrhagic infarction or intracerebral hemorrhage, imply poor outcome.Eur Neurol
