Short- and Long-Term Stroke Risk after Urgent Management of Transient Ischaemic Attack: The Bologna TIA Clinical Pathway
Conclusions: TIA expedited management driven by vascular neurologists was associated with a marked reduction in the expected early stroke risk and low long-term risk of stroke and other vascular events.Eur Neurol 2015;74:1-7

Diagnostic Yield of Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism by Combined CT Venography and Pulmonary Angiography in Patients with Cryptogenic Stroke and Patent Foramen Ovale
Background: Paradoxical embolism via a patent foramen ovale (PFO) has been suggested as a potential stroke mechanism. Combined CT venography and pulmonary angiography (CVPA) is a simple, validated and accurate technique to diagnose deep venous thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE). We sought to assess the prevalence of DVT or PE among patients with PFO and cryptogenic stroke (CS) by CVPA. Methods: Patients were identified retrospectively from a clinical registry of consecutive patients with stroke admitted to our Stroke Unit. The following criteria were required for inclusion in this study: CS, PFO identified by tran...

Neuroanatomical, Clinical and Cognitive Correlates of Post-Stroke Dysphagia
Conclusion: Stroke severity is an important predictor of a persistent pattern of dysphagia, with a suggested NIHSS cutoff value of ≥12. An independent correlation was observed with leukoaraiosis and with previous cognitive impairment.Eur Neurol 2015;74:171-177

Clinical Relevance of Patent Foramen Ovale and Atrial Septum Aneurysm in Stroke: Findings of a Single-Center Cross-Sectional Study
Conclusions: Our study indicates that a detected PFO +/ –ASA could exhibit a stroke-relevant finding, if classical risk factors for the stroke were lacking.Eur Neurol 2017;78:264 –269

Statin Use during Hospitalization and Short-Term Mortality in Acute Ischaemic Stroke with Chronic Kidney Disease
Conclusions: Statin use during hospitalization was associated with decreased 3-month mortality of ischaemic stroke patients with mild and moderate CKD. However, the conclusion should be confirmed in further studies with larger population, especially with moderate CKD.Eur Neurol 2018;79:296 –302

Stroke Care in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College during the COVID-19 Outbreak
Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) has become a pandemic disease globally. The First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College has adopted telestroke to make stroke care accessible in remote areas. During the period January 2020 to March 2020, there was no COVID-19 case reported in our stroke center. A significant reduction of stroke admission was observed between the ischemic stroke group (235 vs. 588 cases) and the intracerebral hemorrhage group (136 vs. 150 cases) when compared with the same period last year (p #x3c; 0.001). The mean door-to-needle time (DNT) and door-to-puncture time (DPT) was 62 and 124 min, res...

Content and Quality of Information about Stroke in Wikipedia across Multiple Languages
Conclusion: The analyzed Wikipedia articles do not contain relevant and up-to-date information to the general population. Further, the content varies widely across the different languages and is missing for some of them. The missing versions disproportionally affect millions of potential information seekers in undeveloped countries.Eur Neurol

Incidence, Risk Factors and Anatomy of Peripersonal Visuospatial Neglect in Acute Stroke
Conclusion: PVN has a low incidence in the acute stroke settings and there is no particular predictor of its presence. It is most often associated with temporo-parietal lesions.Eur Neurol 2016;75:157-163

Medication Adherence of Statin Users after Acute Ischemic Stroke
Although statins are established therapy for the secondary prevention of ischemic stroke, factors associated with adherence to statin treatment following ischemic stroke are not well known. To address this, we assessed the 6-month statin adherence using 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Of 991 patients, 65.6% were adherent to statin at 6-month after discharge. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that patients ’ awareness of hyperlipidemia (OR 1.62; 95% CI 1.07–2.43), large artery stroke subtype (versus non-large artery stroke, OR 1.79; 95% CI 1.19–2.68), and ...

Yield of Screening Tests for Systemic Vasculitis in Young Adults with Ischemic Stroke
Systemic vasculitis, which can involve the brain, may be one of the causes of stroke in young adults; therefore, a test panel for systemic vasculitis is considered for some young stroke patients. However, little is known about this test ’s yield as a screening test in young adults with ischemic stroke. We evaluated the yield of a panel for systemic vasculitis as a screening test in young patients with ischemic stroke. Consecutive patients aged 18–45 years with ischemic stroke between January 2010 and December 2017 were included . They all underwent screening tests for systemic vasculitis including rheumatoid factor, an...
