Sex-Related Differences in Management and Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke in Eligible Patients to Thrombolysis
Conclusions: We provided an exhaustive overview and real-life professional practices conditions in thrombolyzed AIS. Despite a later prehospital management in neurovascular units and more severe strokes at admission, women and men had both similar outcomes at hospital discharge and in 3-month survival, but women were associated to worst functional outcome at 3 months.Cerebrovasc Dis

Direct Admission versus Secondary Transfer for Acute Stroke Patients Treated with Intravenous Thrombolysis and Thrombectomy: Insights from the Endovascular Treatment in Ischemic Stroke Registry
Conclusions: Our study suggests that LVO stroke patients directly admitted to a comprehensive stroke center present a higher chance of functional independence, especially when the distance between the primary stroke center and comprehensive stroke center is #x3e;12.5 miles or when the time between cerebral imaging and groin puncture is ≥140 min.Cerebrovasc Dis

Age- and Sex-Specific Risk Profiles and In-Hospital Mortality in 13,932 Spanish Stroke Patients
Conclusion: Although most of our findings were consistent with previous studies, it is important to take into account and highlight differences in in-hospital mortality between the sex and age group. Not to account for age-related differences between the sexes can give false results that may mislead management decisions. As most deaths in women were related to stroke, it is important to improve their early management, stroke code activation, access to stroke units and/or revascularisation therapies, especially in the older age groups.Cerebrovasc Dis

Post-Stroke Blood-Brain Barrier Disruption and Poor Functional Outcome in Patients Receiving Thrombolytic Therapy
Conclusions: Post-stroke BBB disruption appears to be predictive of functional outcome irrespective of stroke size.Cerebrovasc Dis

Successful Reperfusion with Endovascular Therapy Has Beneficial Effects on Long-Term Outcome Beyond 90 Days
Conclusions: Successful reperfusion has further beneficial legacy effects on long-term outcomes beyond 90 days after stroke.Cerebrovasc Dis

Genotype-Phenotype Correlation in Long-Term Cohort of Japanese Patients with Moyamoya Disease
Conclusions: The p.R4810K founder variant ofRNF213 affects the phenotype at disease onset. However, the optimal revascularization may be effective, regardless of the genotype, even for the homozygous variant, which has been thought to be the most pathogenic. This genotype may not strongly influence the long-term clinical manifestations or poor prognosis in MMD.Cerebrovasc Dis

Comparison Study of ASCO and TOAST Classification System in Chinese Minor Stroke Patients
Conclusion: Application of ASCO decreased the proportion of patients assigned to cause undermined category compared to TOAST system. Comprehensive characteristics of ASCO system might be helpful in the personalized therapy or secondary prevention for individual patients in the future.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:95 –100

Serum Albumin Is Negatively Associated with Hemorrhagic Transformation in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: Higher serum albumin is associated with lower HT risk in a dose-dependent manner in AIS patients younger than 60 years.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:88 –94

A COACHS Nomogram to Predict the Probability of Three-Month Unfavorable Outcome after Acute Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Patients
Conclusions: The COACHS nomogram may be used to predict unfavorable outcome at 3 months after acute ischemic stroke in Chinese population. It may be also a reliable tool that is effective in its clinical utilization to risk-stratify acute stroke patients.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:80 –87

Serotonergic Regulation and Cognition after Stroke: The Role of Antidepressant Treatment and Genetic Variation
Conclusion: There was no difference in cognition between citalopram and placebo-treated patients according to the genotype group. Our results indicate, however, that low expression SERT genotype may contribute to reduced cognitive function post stroke as placebo-treated patients with low SERT expression tended to score lower on the SDMT. The significant difference in SDMT scores between low and high expression patients was present only in the placebo-treated group, thereby warranting further exploration of the potential effect of early citalopram treatment on cognitive functioning. Our results are preliminary and need repl...

Endovascular Thrombectomy in the Elderly: Do Radiological and Clinical Outcomes Differ from Those in Younger Patients? A Prospective Single-Center Experience
Conclusions: EVT in the elderly resulted in equally notable neurological improvement as compared to younger patients. Although the elderly had a higher mortality rate and fewer favorable clinical outcomes at 3 month follow-up, a strict upper age limit for EVT seems unjustified.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:65 –71

Renal Impairment Is Associated with Intracerebral Hemorrhage after Mechanical Thrombectomy in Vertebrobasilar Stroke
Conclusions: Patients with RD and acute vertebrobasilar stroke should be thoroughly monitored to prevent ICH after thrombectomy. Our results support performing mechanical thrombectomy in acute stroke patients with large vessel occlusions of the posterior circulation, irrespective of their renal function.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:48 –56

One-Year Risk of Recurrent Stroke and Death Associated with Vertebrobasilar Artery Stenosis and Occlusion in a Cohort of 10,515 Patients
Conclusions: VBA stenosis or occlusion was relatively prevalent among patients with TIA or ischemic stroke and associated with higher risk of recurrent stroke and death in patients with ischemic stroke or TIA who had large artery atherosclerosis.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:40 –47

Liver Fibrosis, Not Steatosis, Associates with Long-Term Outcomes in Ischaemic Stroke Patients
Conclusions: This study found that the burden of liver fibrosis but not that of steatosis, assessed via TE, was an independent predictor of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality during long-term follow-up in patients with ischaemic stroke.Cerebrovasc Dis 2019;47:32 –39
