Cardiovascular events risk in patients with systemic autoimmune diseases: a prognostic systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Patients with SAD present an increased risk of CV morbidity and mortality, which should be considered when establishing therapeutic strategies. These findings support the role of systemic inflammation in the development of atherosclerosis-driven disease.PMID:37650912 | DOI:10.1007/s00392-023-02291-4

Outcomes of Telestroke Inter-Hospital Transfers Among Intervention and Non-Intervention Patients
CONCLUSIONS: Telestroke is a valuable resource that expedites emergent neurological care via referral to a stroke center. However, not all transferred patients benefit from the transfer process. Future multicenter studies are warranted to study the effects or appropriateness of telestroke networks, and to better understand the patient characteristics, resources allocation, and transferring institutions to improve telestroke care.PMID:37434777 | PMC:PMC10332878 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4945

Timing of Postoperative Stroke and Risk of Mortality After Noncardiac Surgery: A Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: Postoperative stroke tends to occur within 7 days following noncardiac surgery. Such timing of postoperative stroke carries a higher mortality risk, suggesting that targeted efforts to prevent stroke should focus on the first week following surgery to reduce the incidence and mortality associated with this complication. Our findings contribute to the growing understanding of stroke after noncardiac surgery and may help clinicians develop tailored perioperative neuroprotective strategies to prevent or improve treatment and outcomes of postoperative stroke.PMID:37303467 | PMC:PMC10251695 | DOI:10.14740/jocmr4877

Morbidity and mortality of patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented alpha-lipoic acid versus symptomatic pharmacotherapies - a nationwide database analysis from Hungary
CONCLUSIONS: This retrospective database analysis revealed a lower occurrence of cardio- and cerebrovascular morbidity, cancer events and all-cause mortality in patients with diabetic neuropathy treated with pathogenetically oriented ALA vs symptomatic pharmacotherapies. This hypothesis-generating result requires further investigations.PMID:37257759 | DOI:10.1016/j.diabres.2023.110734
