Values of vanillylmandelic acid and homovanillic acid in the urine as potential prognostic biomarkers in ischaemic stroke patients.
CONCLUSION: Determining the values of these compounds in the urine is an easily available prognostic tool for the ischaemic stroke outcome, while also influencing potential therapeutic changes. PMID: 28675313 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Alterations of lymphocyte count and platelet volume precede cerebrovascular lesions in stroke-prone spontaneously hypertensive rats.
Conclusion: Our pilot study suggests that alterations of lymphocyte count and platelet volume predictive indicators for asymptomatic CSVD and symptomatic stroke in SHRSP. PMID: 32285702 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Role of Glial Fibrillary Acidic protein as a biomarker in differentiating intracerebral hemorrhage from ischemic stroke and stroke mimics: A meta-analysis.
Conclusion: Our meta-analysis suggests that GFAP has a promising diagnostic accuracy for the differentiation of ICH from IS and mimics. Further, phase II and phase III diagnostic test studies are required to validate the findings before using GFAP as a blood based biomarker for clinical use.Trial Registration: This study was registered in OSF registries 10.17605/OSF.IO/B9JP4. Blood Markers of Inflammation and Endothelial Dysfunction in Cardioembolic Stroke: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Conclusions: our findings confirm a possible association between selected inflammatory biomarkers and CE stroke. PMID: 28117601 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Patients with acute myocardial infarction and atrial fibrillation: association of anemia with risk of in-hospital bleeding, stroke and other death causes.
Conclusions: In the Chinese in-hospital AMI and AF cohort, anemia was shown to be associated with increased risk of any bleeding, minor bleeding, gastrointestinal bleeding and other death causes, but not the risk of stroke or/and SE. Trial Registration Not applicable. PMID: 33411568 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Verification of a Proteomic Biomarker Panel to Diagnose Minor Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack: Phase 1 of SpecTRA, a Large Scale Translational Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Our panel has the potential to assist ED physicians in distinguishing TIA from mimic patients. PMID: 29385837 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Can baseline C-reactive protein level predict functional outcome in acute ischemic stroke? A meta-analysis.
Conclusions: Elevated CRP level is significantly associated with poor functional outcome in patients with AIS. Baseline CRP level has potential to improve risk stratification of function outcome in AIS patients. PMID: 32892646 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Validation of a Proteomic Biomarker Panel to Diagnose Minor-Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack: Phase 2 of SpecTRA, a Large Scale Translational Study.
CONCLUSION: Univariate analyses suggest insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 3 and serum paraoxonase/lactonase 3 are reliable and reproducible biomarkers for TIA status. Logistic regression models indicated L-selectin, apolipoprotein B-100, coagulation factor IX, and thrombospondin-1 to be significant multivariate predictors of TIA. We discuss multivariate feature subset analyses as an exploratory technique to better understand a panel's full predictive potential. PMID: 30010432 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Relationship of Troponin to Incident Atrial Fibrillation Occurrence, Recurrence after Radiofrequency Ablation and Prognosis: A Systematic Review, Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression.
Conclusions In our systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression, TnT was associated with both incident AF occurrence and AF recurrence after RFA, as well as stroke/SE and major bleeding. In contrast, TnI was not associated with incident AF occurrence, AF recurrence after RFA or prognosis (stroke/SE, major bleeding). PMID: 29631448 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Serum neurofilament light chain in functionally relevant coronary artery disease and adverse cardiovascular outcomes
CONCLUSION: While sNfL concentrations did not show a diagnostic role for fCAD, in contrast, sNfL was a strong and independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes, including all-cause death, cardiovascular death and stroke/TIA.PMID:36714921 | DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2023.2172211
