Long-term cardiovascular outcomes and temporal trends in patients diagnosed with ANCA-associated vasculitis: a Danish nationwide registry study
ConclusionsPatients with AAV are at increased risk of heart failure, atrial-/ventricular arrhythmias, venous thrombotic events, ischaemic stroke and myocardial infarction. Furthermore, patients with AAV were more frequently examined with coronary procedures and underwent more coronary revascularizations. No temporal changes in ischaemic cardiovascular outcomes were observed, albeit the cardiovascular mortality has decreased over time.

Severe Libman –Sacks endocarditis complicating antiphospholipid syndrome: a retrospective analysis of 23 operated cases
ConclusionSevere HVD leading to surgery was strongly associated with thrombotic APS, especially arterial phenotypes. Half of the reported patients presented cerebral stroke complicating the HVD. Valvular surgery carried a significant risk of CAPS.

Early onset is an indication of the severity of DADA2 disease
ConclusionEarly-onset DADA2 may be more severe. Early administration of TNF inhibitor can effectively reduce recurrence and quickly alleviate the disease.

Cardiovascular risk and mortality in rheumatoid arthritis compared with diabetes mellitus and the general population
Dear Editor, We read with great interest the work of L øgstrupet al. [1] studying cardiovascular risk and mortality in RA compared with diabetes mellitus (DM) and the general population. In their work, the authors longitudinally followed patients with RA and DM. They highlighted that RA is associated with an increased risk of heart failure, myocardial infarction (MI), stroke and coronary revascularization than is found in the general population, but without reaching the risk levels observed in DM patients. They pointed out that patients with incident RA have the same 10  year risk of MI compared with DM patients. Howeve...

Early-onset stroke and iron-deficiency anaemia in young siblings
Rheumatology key messagesDADA2 has a highly variable phenotype and may present without overt evidence of vascular inflammation.Young-onset stroke and haematological abnormalities, especially in the presence of consanguinity, should alert the clinician to possible DADA2.Anti-TNF therapy has been shown to be effective for preventing ischaemic episodes, while HSCT remains an option for those who fail to respond to anti-TNF therapy.

O27  Frailty and co-morbidity in people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis
Conclusion Co-morbidity is associated with an increased occurrence of pre-frailty and frailty among people with OA and RA and interacts synergistically with OA and RA to increase the likelihood of pre-frailty and frailty.Disclosure M.J. P030  Antiphospholipid syndrome and giant cell arteritis: a coincidence or connection?
Conclusion In summary, this is a case of GCA and APS, treated with prednisolone, aspirin, warfarin and tocilizumab. There is increasing evidence describing the presence of antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with vasculitis. However, the role of these antibodies in GCA and the clinical significance rema ins unclear. This case reports highlights the need for physicians to consider APS in patients who have a history of GCA and subsequently develop arterial or venous embolic events.Disclosure L. Sammut: None.E. P211  Aortitis: clinical experience within a tertiary centre
Conclusion Systemic inflammatory response syndrome was the commonest presenting feature. Those without GCA-like symptoms received a delayed diagnosis, which increases the risk of preventable vascular events. CT-PET remained the main diagnostic tool. Prednisolone treatment was prolonged with burdensome side- effects. Methotrexate remained the DMARD of choice, but leflunomide also showed good results. Vascular complications are common and need attention.Disclosure R.S. Andev: None.N. Ahmad: None.R. Luqmani: None.S. Dubey: None.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis have impaired long-term outcomes after myocardial infarction: a nationwide case-control registry study
ConclusionRA is independently associated with poorer prognosis after MI. RA duration and corticosteroid usage and dosage were independent predictors of mortality after MI in RA. Special attention is needed for improvement of outcomes after MI in this vulnerable population.

Comment on: Association of systemic lupus erythematosus with peripheral arterial disease: a meta-analysis of literature studies
Dear Editor, We read with great interest the article by Forteet al. [1] referring to a meta-analysis of studies evaluating the association between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Taking into consideration that SLE patients have an increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality as well as the contrasting data that are available about the putative association between PAD and SLE, the authors nicely showed that SLE patients exhibit a ∼four-fold higher prevalence of PAD as compared with non-SLE controls individuals [1]. These results confirmed and extended previously published evid...

The risks of major cardiac events among patients with psoriatic arthritis treated with apremilast, biologics, DMARDs or corticosteroids
ConclusionIn patients with treated PsA, IRs of MI, stroke and revascularization were low for all systemic treatments evaluated. Although the number of events was small, apremilast exposure did not signal potential acute cardiovascular harm and was not associated with a material increase in the risk of these serious cardiac events.

Cardiovascular risk and mortality in rheumatoid arthritis compared with diabetes mellitus and the general population
ConclusionThis study demonstrates that RA is associated with an increased risk of HF, MI, stroke and coronary revascularization than found in the GP but without reaching the risk levels observed in DM patients.

Risk factors for severe cranial ischaemic complications in giant cell arteritis
ConclusionIncreasing age, jaw claudication and smoking predicted sCIC, while higher CRP decreased the risk of sCIC in our GCA cohort.

Epidemiology, morbidity and mortality in Beh çet’s disease: a cohort study using The Health Improvement Network (THIN)
ConclusionBD has a higher prevalence than previously thought. Physicians should be aware of the increased risk of developing ischaemic heart disease, stroke/transient ischaemic attack and deep venous thrombosis in patients with BD at an earlier age compared with the general population. Risk of embolism in patients with BD might vary across the disease course.
