Simultaneous acute cardio-cerebral infarction associated with isolated left ventricle non-compaction cardiomyopathy
CONCLUSION: To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the first reported case of cardiocerebral infraction (CCI) in the setting of non-compaction left ventricle. Early and precise diagnosis is critical to the successful management of these conditions.PMID:36045823 | PMC:PMC9422203 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104172

Efficacy of ablation therapy on clinical outcomes in patients with atrial fibrillation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Ablation significantly reduces the risk of stroke, cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, and HF in AF patients, compared with medical therapy alone, supporting its use in clinical practice.PMID:37663739 | PMC:PMC10473299 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000985

Electrocardiogram changes and atrial arrhythmias in individuals carrying sodium channel SCN5A D1275N mutation.
CONCLUSIONS: A 12-lead ECG can be used to predict arrhythmias in SCN5A D1275N mutation carriers. PMID: 28294644 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fitting the right non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant to the right patient with non-valvular atrial fibrillation: An evidence-based choice.
Authors: Li Y, Pastori D, Lip GY Abstract Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent arrhythmia and is associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke (IS) and systemic embolism (SE). Stroke prevention is a key element for the overall management of AF patients. The non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs), such as dabigatran, rivaroxaban, apixaban and edoxaban, are at least as effective as warfarin in reducing IS/SE with a lower rate of major bleeding. Various analyses from the large Phase III randomised trials demonstrated different efficacy and safety of NOACs in specific subgroups of patient...

Association between the liver fat score (LFS) and cardiovascular diseases in the national health and nutrition examination survey 1999-2016
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is usually asymptomatic, but this large study of a large general population shows that LFS is associated with CHD, CHF, angina pectoris, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Determining the LFS is worthwhile, as it identifies people with NAFLD, who may also be at increased cardiovascular risk.Key MessagesLiver fat score (LFS), a non-invasive marker of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and angina.LFS is also associated with increased cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.Determining the LFS is worthwhile as it ide...

Tea intake and cardiovascular disease: an umbrella review
Ann Med. 2021 Dec;53(1):929-944. doi: 10.1080/07853890.2021.1933164.ABSTRACTBrewed tea (Camellia sinensis) is a major dietary source of flavonoids, in particular flavan-3-ols. Tea consumption has been suggested to be inversely associated with a decreased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Several biological mechanisms support the inverse relationship between tea flavonoid intake and CVD risk. Given the recent accumulating evidence from various systematic reviews regarding the role of tea as a beverage in reducing CVD risk and severity, we conducted an umbrella review to describe and critically evaluate the totality of e...

Internal carotid artery and bilateral vertebral arteries dissections associated with amphetamine abuse: Case report
We reported the Case of a 40-year-old male patient with chronic amphetamine used since childhood. He had increased the consumption from once a month to every other day in the last year. The patient suffered from acute left-side hemiparesis and neglect. Computed tomography angiography of the brain and neck vessels demonstrated non-atheromatous vasculopathy with a suspected dissection process of the right internal carotid artery and bilateral vertebral arteries. A review of recent data is also provided to clarify the possible mechanism.PMID:34401140 | PMC:PMC8353386 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2021.102676

Clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of atrial fibrillation at a tertiary center of Pakistan - From a South-Asian perspective - A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: There was higher prevalence of chronic co-morbid conditions in the studied population leading to a higher CHA2DS2VASC Score. Sepsis and stroke were independently associated with higher in-hospital mortality.PMID:35003722 | PMC:PMC8718836 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2021.103128

Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis as a complication of COVID-19 infection - A case report
CONCLUSION: High index of suspicion of CVST is necessary when a patient presents with unexplained neurological manifestation following a recent COVID-19 infection to prevent from life-threatening complications. Furthermore, clinicians should not underestimate the multisystem involvement of COVID-19.PMID:35127077 | PMC:PMC8800506 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103326

Characteristics of hemodynamic parameters after fluid resuscitation and vasoactive drugs administration in pediatric shock: A prospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: Most pediatric shock patients were hypodynamic. Even when the CI was normal, the preload, inotropy, and afterload may still be abnormal. It represented the inotropy as a key to hemodynamic.PMID:35495407 | PMC:PMC9052134 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103521
