Acute dysphagia: A rare initial symptom of lateral medullary syndrome: A case report
CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of LMS was queried owing to the presentation of the single most important common symptom, with no other characteristic manifestations of LMS.PMID:36582892 | PMC:PMC9793181 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104851

Outcome of transcatheter atrial septal defect closure in a nationwide cohort
CONCLUSION: After TC closure of ASD, patients had a higher risk of new-onset atrial fibrillation and migraine than controls without ASD. As novel findings, we found an increased risk for ischemic heart disease, AV conduction disorders, and ventricular fibrillation/tachycardia.Key messagesEven though patients have an excellent overall prognosis after percutaneous ASD closure, the increased incidence of major comorbidities like atrial fibrillation and heart failure prompts more thorough lifelong follow-up.This study's novel findings revealed the increased risk for ischemic heart disease, AV conduction disorders, or ventricul...

Prognostic implications of stress hyperglycemia ratio in patients with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries
CONCLUSIONS: The SHR independently confers the cardiovascular risk after MINOCA, and may serve as a better predictor than glycemia at admission alone, particularly in those with diabetes.KEY MESSAGESStress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) is independently associated with the prognosis in a distinct population with myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA).SHR is a better predictor of prognosis than admission glycemia alone, especially in diabetic patients with MINOCA.SHR may serve as a prognostic marker for risk stratification as well as a potential target for tailored glucose-lowering treatment in MINO...

The SARS-CoV-2 responsible for phlegmasia cerulea dolens: a case report
CONCLUSION: Although the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 remains a thrombogenic pathology, systematic anticoagulation is the subject of hypothesis. Hence the importance of regular monitoring of markers of vascular thrombosis.PMID:37008170 | PMC:PMC10060091 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000152

Association between anticholinergic medication uses and the risk of pneumonia in elderly adults: a meta-analysis and systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of pneumonia is increased in elderly adults with anticholinergic medication, especially with higher-potency anticholinergic drugs and in the initiation phase of anticholinergic medication. Clinicians should monitor their use in older patients carefully, especially when the pneumonia-related signs and symptoms are identified.PMID:37190776 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2023.2209736

Percutaneous coronary intervention versus coronary artery bypass grafting among patients with left ventricular systolic dysfunction: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: The results of this meta-analysis suggest that CABG is superior to PCI for patients with LVSD. CABG was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality, repeat revascularization, and incidence of myocardial infarction compared with PCI in patients with LVSD.PMID:37363575 | PMC:PMC10289746 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000634

Cytomegalovirus viremia in an 11-year-old child with sickle cell disease manifested only with fever: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case highlights the need to consider CMV infection in the differential diagnosis of every case of fever of unknown origin, regardless of the patient's immune status.PMID:37427240 | PMC:PMC10328612 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000877
