The role of MLC901 in reducing VEGF as a vascular permeability marker in rats with spinal cord injury
CONCLUSION: It can be concluded that administration of MLC 901 can reduce vascular permeability, one of the mechanisms that is thought to occur is to reduce VEGF levels. MLC 901 also maintains the neuroprotective effect provided by VEGF by maintaining this level above the basal level until day 14.PMID:35386787 | PMC:PMC8977894 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103344

Interventional radiology in low- and middle-income countries
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2022 Apr 5;77:103594. doi: 10.1016/j.amsu.2022.103594. eCollection 2022 May.ABSTRACTWith advancements in imaging techniques, interventional radiology (IR) has found an increased utility in multiple diseases such as ischemic stroke, tissue biopsies, oncology, trauma, etc. The benefit has been twofold in being minimally invasive and improved outcomes. IR in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is still in its nascent phase. The many hurdles include poorly structured post-graduate training, cost of procedures, and lack of awareness among referring physicians. There is a significant need to increase th...

Prognostic value of systemic inflammatory response index in patients with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention
CONCLUSION: SIRI was an independent risk factor for MACE and provided incremental prognostic information in patients with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. KEY MESSAGESThe SIRI is a strong and independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in patients with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.Higher SIRI is associated with a more severe disease status. The SIRI could increase the prognostic value of the GRACE risk score.PMID:35695557 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2022.2083671

An acute lower limb ischemia revealing a covid-19 infection: A case report
CONCLUSION: The coagulopathy responsible for venous and arterial thrombosis is a well-established complication of COVID-19. Arterial thromboembolic complications can be either stroke, acute coronary syndrome or peripheral acute ischemia. Therefore, patients with covid19 should be monitored more closely for thromboembolic complications.PMID:35999833 | PMC:PMC9389520 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104445

Effectiveness of endovascular repair versus open surgery for the treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysm: A systematic review and meta analysis
CONCLUSION: Current evidence supports the use of endovascular repair over open surgery. However, there is a need to conduct dedicated randomized controlled trials to effectively compare and determine the benefits and risk of both strategies.PMID:36147154 | PMC:PMC9486727 | DOI:10.1016/j.amsu.2022.104477
