J Pain Res. 2022 Sep 13;15:2893-2904. doi: 10.2147/JPR.S377790. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTThe Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of 13 related connective tissue disorders with a combined prevalence of 1 in 5000 people, with the most common noted as hypermobile EDS (hEDS). The EDS genetic condition is thought to affect both males and females equally, although most symptomatic patients are female. EDS causes a myriad of symptoms, including skin hyperextensibility and fragility, easy bruising and bleeding, joint hypermobility, subluxation, dislocation, and chronic pain. Pain is one of the most common symptoms of EDS, le...

Factors associated with physician-reported treatment status of patients with osteoarthritis pain
CONCLUSIONS: Approximately 1 in 4 patients were not prescribed medication and 1 in 7 were self-managed, although many were using over-the-counter medications or nonpharmacologic therapies requiring no/minimal medical supervision. Multiple factors were significantly associated with treatment status, including OA severity and over-the-counter medication, but not pain intensity or most demographics.PMID:35619074 | DOI:10.1186/s12891-022-05414-6

In a pandemic that limits contact, can videoconferencing enable interdisciplinary persistent pain services and what are the patient's perspectives?
CONCLUSION: In the context of a pandemic, videoconferencing for interdisciplinary persistent pain management services was effective, preferred and most patients would continue its use into the future. Alternative or mixed modes of support may be needed for the 26% who currently prefer onsite attendance, when that mode of delivery is not available.PMID:34762855 | DOI:10.1016/j.apmr.2021.10.018

Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and Hypermobility Spectrum Disorders
Am Fam Physician. 2021 Apr 15;103(8):481-492.ABSTRACTHypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders are the most common symptomatic joint hypermobility conditions seen in clinical practice. The 2017 International Classification of the Ehlers-Danlos syndromes replaced previous terms for symptomatic joint hypermobility with hypermobile EDS and introduced the term hypermobility spectrum disorders for patients not meeting diagnostic criteria for hypermobile EDS. Both are diagnosed by applying the 2017 diagnostic criteria, which also excludes other less common conditions presenting with joint hype...
