Association between estimated glomerular filtration rate and clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischaemic stroke: results from China National Stroke Registry
Conclusions: a low eGFR was associated with increased risks of all-cause mortality and recurrent stroke independent of the traditional vascular risk factors in Chinese stroke patients.

248 An Evaluation of Patient Education Post-Stroke
ConclusionThese results illustrate areas in which we can improve education post-stroke, including ensuring patients receive individualised information about the aetiology of their stroke, risk factors and the importance of new medications. It also highlights the importance of ensuring advice regarding driving is clearly explained and documented.

311 Older Adults Awareness and Response to Stroke in Ireland.
ConclusionAwareness of stroke symptoms does not necessarily influence response to stroke in older adults. Future stroke awareness campaigns should consider FAST2 which speaks to treatment (thrombolysis or thrombectomy) as well as time.

123 Empowering Patients after Stroke: Development of a Stroke Information Booklet
ConclusionPatients/Families are keen to receive information regarding stroke, particularly about future risk of stroke. Empowering patients with information about stroke that is relevant to them and their care providers is a fundamental part of secondary stroke prevention. We also need to focus more on the psychological impact of stroke. Our booklet will incorporate information we have gathered in this study to make it a truly patient centred resource.

The future cost of stroke in Ireland: an analysis of the potential impact of demographic change and implementation of evidence-based therapies
Background and purpose: this paper examines the impact of demographic change from 2007 to 2021 on the total cost of stroke in Ireland and analyses potential impacts of expanded access to stroke unit care and thrombolytic therapy on stroke outcomes and costs. Methods: total costs of stroke are estimated for the projected number of stroke cases in 2021 in Ireland. Analysis also estimates the potential number of deaths or institutionalised cases averted among incident stroke cases in Ireland in 2007 at different rates of access to stroke unit care and thrombolytic therapy. Drawing on these results, total stroke costs in Irela...

Dementia prediction for people with stroke in populations: is mild cognitive impairment a useful concept?
Conclusion: criteria for MCI do not appear to capture risk of dementia in the context of stroke in the population. In stroke cases, subjective and objective cognitive performance predicts dementia and these variables could possibly be incorporated into dementia risk models for stroke cases. Identifying individuals with stroke at greatest risk of dementia has important implications for treatment and intervention.

Health-related quality of life is associated with stroke deficits in older adults
Conclusion: we found that impaired HRQoL was significantly associated with the number and type of stroke deficits in older adults with a history of stroke.

55 A Review of Stroke Demographics and Outcomes at a Regional Hospital without a Stroke Unit
ConclusionThe average length of stay was 16.1 days, considerably higher than the national stroke unit average of 9. The overall mortality rate was 5% higher than the national of 13%. Limited rehabilitation services and time awaiting national rehabilitation beds contributed to the long LOS. There is a definite need for a dedicated stroke service at our hospital, local analysis suggests that 6 beds would meet the needs of our catchment area; and this would lead to better outcomes for stroke patients.  A further locally dedicated stroke audit is needed.

Changes in antiplatelet use prior to incident ischaemic stroke over 7 years in a UK centre and the association with stroke subtype
Conclusions: our findings highlight the requirement to improve currently available risk prediction scores as well as the potential clinical impact of antiplatelet resistance within the at risk population who are already on antiplatelets. These findings also indicate that targeting of multiple risk factors may be very important in stroke prevention.

Important factors in predicting mortality outcome from stroke: findings from the Anglia Stroke Clinical Network Evaluation Study
Conclusions</div>there appears to be consistent and robust evidence of direct clinical benefit on mortality up to 1 year after acute stroke of higher numbers of trained nursing staff over and above that of other recognised mortality risk factors.</span>

Natural history, predictors and associated outcomes of anxiety up to 10 years after stroke: the South London Stroke Register
Conclusions: anxiety is a frequent problem affecting stroke survivors in the long term. Clinicians should pay attention to patients at risk of anxiety since it is associated with lower QoL and depression.

254 An Audit of the Frequency of Early Swallow Screens Performed in Patients Diagnosed with a Stroke
ConclusionIn summary while our hospital is succeeding in getting the vast majority of diagnosed strokes into our stroke unit we are not currently meeting the UK target for early swallow screening. We aim to roll out an education and training programme targeting nurses and doctors in our stroke unit regarding early swallow screening and re-audit this in 6-12 month ’s time.

306 The Changing Face of Stroke in the DOAC Era
ConclusionThe majority of strokes occurring in anticoagulated patients are related to warfarin use. We observed an almost significant reduction in the proportion of ischaemic strokes due to under-dosing of OAC over the study period. Warfarin continues to be recommended as the first line anticoagulant for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation by the HSE Medicines Management Programme, a decision which we would argue warrants review.
