A typology of cerebral small vessel disease based on imaging markers
ConclusionThe study confirmed the existence of different SVD types with different relationships to stroke outcome. EPVS and WMH were identified as imaging features of presumably early progression. The number of microbleeds and WMH severity appear to be promising biomarkers for distinguishing clinical subgroups. Further understanding of SVD progression might require consideration of refined SVD features, e.g., for EPVS and type of lacunes.

Data lake-driven analytics identify nocturnal non-dipping of heart rate as predictor of unfavorable stroke outcome at discharge
ConclusionsOur data suggest that a lack of circadian HR modulation, specifically nocturnal non-dipping, is associated with short-term unfavorable functional outcome after stroke, and that including HR into machine learning-based prediction models may lead to improved stroke outcome prediction.

ConclusionMachine learning-based evaluation of pc-ASPECTS regions predicts functional outcome of pc-stroke patients with higher accuracy than conventional assessments. This could optimize triage for additional diagnostics and allocation of best possible medical care and might allow required arrangements of the social environment at an early point of time.

Modern machine-learning can support diagnostic differentiation of central and peripheral acute vestibular disorders
ConclusionsEstablished clinical scores (such as HINTS) provide a valuable baseline assessment for stroke detection in acute vestibular syndromes. In addition, machine-learning methods may have the potential to increase sensitivity and selectivity in the establishment of a correct diagnosis.

Posterior circulation stroke: machine learning-based detection of early ischemic changes in acute non-contrast CT scans
ConclusionsQuantitative features of early hyperacute NCCTs can be used to detect early ischemic changes in pc-ASPECTS regions. The classifier performance was higher or equal to results of human raters. The proposed approach could facilitate reproducible analysis in research and may allow standardized assessments for outcome prediction and therapy planning in clinical routine.

Cerebral microbleeds are associated with cognitive decline early after ischemic stroke
ConclusionCognitive abilities are more severely impaired in CMB-positive stroke patients compared to CMB-free controls, whereby memory-associated functions are most affected. CMB might be associated with post-stroke cognitive decline, particularly with impaired memory and phonemic fluency.
