Transapical Transcatheter Mitral Valve Implantation with the Tendyne Valve: The Swiss Experience
Conclusion Transcatheter mitral valve implantation with Tendyne is feasible to treat polymorbid patients suffering from complex mitral valve disease as well as patients with previous mitral interventions. Perioperative risk was acceptable and procedural success high. Dual effect of C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 on ischemic stroke: More harm than benefit?
Eur J Pharmacol. 2023 Jun 13:175857. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2023.175857. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke involves a series of complex pathological mechanisms, of which neuroinflammation is currently the most widely recognized. C-C motif chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) has recently been shown to be upregulated after cerebral ischemia. Notably, CCR5 is not only involved in neuroinflammation, but also in the blood-brain barrier, neural structures, and connections. Accumulating experimental studies indicate that CCR5 has a dual effect on ischemic stroke. In the acute phase after cerebral ischemia, the pro-inflammatory...

Long Term Outcomes and Anticoagulation in Mitral Valve Surgery - A Report from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Database
CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulation was used in less than half of mitral valve surgery. In MVrep patients, warfarin was associated with increased bleeding and was not protective against either stroke or mortality. In BMVR patients, warfarin was associated with a modest survival benefit, increased bleeding and equivalent stroke risk. NOAC was associated with increased adverse outcomes.PMID:37308066 | DOI:10.1016/j.athoracsur.2023.05.025

Impact of Pulmonary Arterial Elastance on Right Ventricular Mechanics and Exercise Capacity in Repaired Tetralogy of Fallot
CONCLUSIONS: We found that PA vascular dysfunction, presenting as elevated Ea in TOF, may contribute to exercise intolerance. However, Ea was inversely correlated with pulmonary regurgitation (PR) severity, which may prevent PR, RV dilatation, and left ventricular dilatation in the absence of significant pulmonary stenosis.PMID:37271746 | PMC:PMC10244185 | DOI:10.4070/kcj.2022.0228
