Sex differences in clinical outcomes amongst 1105 patients admitted with hip fractures
AbstractAmongst hip fracture admissions, mortality is higher in men than in women. However, sex differences in other care-quality measures have not been well-documented. We aimed to examine sex differences in mortality as well as a wide range of underlying health indicators and clinical outcomes in adults  ≥ 60 year of age admitted with hip fractures from their own homes to a single NHS hospital between April-2009 and June-2019. Sex differences in delirium, length of stay (LOS) and mortality in hospital, readmission, and discharge destination, were examined by logistic regression. There were 7 87 women and 318 men o...

Post-induction hypotension and intraoperative hypotension as potential separate risk factors for the adverse outcome: a cohort study
ConclusionsThe presence of IOH defined as MAP  ≤ 65 mmHg is relevant to post-operative organ complications, the presence of PIH does not appear to be of such significance. Because cumulative duration of PIH and IOH differs significantly, especially in long-lasting procedures, direct comparison of the influence of PIH and IOH on outcome s eparately may be biased and should be taken into account in data interpretation. Further research is needed to deeply investigate this phenomenon.

Comparison of eversion carotid endarterectomy under local anesthesia and eversion/conventional carotid endarterectomy under general anesthesia
CONCLUSIONS: The mean operation time, postoperative in-hospital stay, overall in-hospital stay, and need for shunting were lower in patients who underwent E-CEA under local anesthesia. E-CEA under local anesthesia seemed to do better in stroke, death, and bleeding rate, however, this difference was not significant.PMID:37077466 | PMC:PMC10107416 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2023.126096
