Cardiovascular risk factors in chronic treatment with antipsychotic agents used in primary care.
CONCLUSIONS. Patients treated with antipsychotic drugs had a greater prevalence of several CVRF (diabetes mellitus, obesity, and smoking). The presence of stroke was higher in those treated with antipsychotics. No relevant differences were observed between patients receiving typical or atypical antipsychotics. Prevalence, type of epilepsy and use of antiepileptic drugs in primary care.
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of patients with epilepsy was 8.4/1000 inhabitants, most frequent etiology the symptomatic focal stroke. More than half of patients suffered neurological and/or psychiatric comorbidity. At the end of follow-up the great majority were seizure-free without adverse effects of the antiepileptic drug treatment. PMID: 26062825 [PubMed - in process]

An assessment of the management of spasticity in Spain: the 5E Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Most of the patients have post-stroke spasticity. Moreover, botulinum A toxin was the most commonly treatment applied to patients with spasticity. The results demonstrate that the management of spasticity varies significantly across the different centers participating in the study. PMID: 27658359 [PubMed - in process]

Childhood ischemic cerebrovascular disease in a paediatric emergency service: a descriptive study.
CONCLUSIONS: CVD is uncommon in pediatrics, but with a high morbimortality, so it is important to make an early diagnosis. Clinical and personal history are fundamental, nevertheless, we mainly deal with a previously healthy child without known risk factors at the time of the first evaluation. In case of clinical suspicion of stroke, a normal initial CT does not rule out a CVD, so other additional tests, such as MRI, are necessary. PMID: 29645069 [PubMed - in process]

Rehabilitation of anosognosia in patients with unilateral visuospatial neglect.
CONCLUSIONS: Further research is needed to help us improve the treatment of anosognosia in patients with unilateral visuospatial neglect. Some methodological recommendations emerge from the limitations identified in this study. PMID: 31364148 [PubMed - in process]

Neurological complications associated with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy in adult patients. A study of a case series
CONCLUSIONS: ECMO is a useful therapeutic tool in cases of high clinical severity. In our study, we identified a high rate of neurological complications that contribute to associated morbidity and mortality. Early neuroimaging studies in these cases could allow early detection of these complications.PMID:34569034 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7307.2020140

Carotid angioplasty in stenosis following radiotherapy: a review of 12 cases.
CONCLUSIONS. Carotid angioplasty is a safe, effective technique in stenosis following radiotherapy, with few short-term complications. The rate of carotid restenosis is high. The main cause of death is cancer. PMID: 23359074 [PubMed - in process]

Prenatal cerebrovascular accidents diagnosed in the early infant stage: a series of 10 patients.
CONCLUSIONS. When CVA are not detected in the prenatal period, it is important in primary care to look for and detect the warning signs of the psychomotor development of the infant at an early stage in order to begin a study of the case and to undertake rehabilitation as early as possible.
