Stroke in children. Experience in an emergency service.
CONCLUSIONS. CVD is a rare entity, although it presents a high morbidity and mortality rate. Haemorrhagic CVD is seen to predominate slightly and it is observed how haemorrhagic CVD presents more often with signs of intracranial hypertension, while the ischaemic form tends to have more neurological focus. What is hidden behind the Baking Tray Task? Study of sensibility and specificity in right-hemispheric stroke patients.
CONCLUSIONS: The BTT has proved to be a sensitive test for the detection of spatial negligence. Yet, based on its low specificity, its use alone as a single diagnostic test is not recommended. PMID: 26662872 [PubMed - in process]

Efficacy of a dynamic orthosis on the upper limbs in the chronic phase of strokes. A longitudinal study.
CONCLUSIONS: Rehabilitation following a stroke improves strength and body activities in the upper limb. The use of a dynamic orthosis can further improve the strength in this limb, but additional research is needed to confirm our results. PMID: 28849862 [PubMed - in process]

Migratory hyperdense posterior cerebral artery sign following intravenous thrombolysis.
CONCLUSIONS: Evidence of posterior cerebral artery hyperdensity is a rare radiological finding associated with an increased volume of ischaemic stroke. A computed tomography scan of the head in the acute phase is essential to try to clarify its causation. Calcium emboli are an under-diagnosed cause of stroke and occur spontaneously in a large proportion of cases. If calcium embolism is suspected, a study must be conducted in search of a carotid, valvular or aortic arch pathology. Migration of the arterial hyperdensity towards distal is associated with a better prognosis. This case presented good progress in contrast to the...

Treatment and rehabilitation of dysphagia following cerebrovascular disease.
CONCLUSIONS. The studies examined in this research claim that the treatment of dysphagia following a stroke can improve the function of deglutition (coordination, speed, volume), quality of life and people's social relationships. Further work needs to be carried out to establish or define what kind of therapies, techniques, exercises or manoeuvres are the most effective in dysphagia. Generally agreed treatment or rehabilitation protocols also need to be drawn up within units that address stroke in an integrated manner. PMID: 24610693 [PubMed - in process]

Bilateral carotid artery occlusion: prognosis and neurosonological features.
CONCLUSIONS. In the present study, the annual ischaemic stroke rate in patients with BCAO was low. A pathological CRC and an inadequate collateral circulation could be related with an increased risk of recurrences. PMID: 25005316 [PubMed - in process]

Therapeutic potential of bone marrow stem cells in cerebral infarction.
CONCLUSIONS: Autologous mononuclear cell concentrate, obtained from peripheral blood or by puncturing the bone marrow and transplanted intravenously, is a feasible methodological option that will make it possible to quickly increase the number of clinical trials conducted at different stages of the development of a completed stroke. This therapy has proved itself to be safe and effective; nevertheless, further evidence is needed to endorse its generalised use in humans. PMID: 25952602 [PubMed - in process]

Training cortical signals by means of a BMI-EEG system, its evolution and intervention. A case report.
CONCLUSIONS: The BMI systems detect cortical changes in a subacute stroke subject. These changes are coherent with the evolution observed using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment. PMID: 28368083 [PubMed - in process]

Acute global amnesia as an exclusive presenting symptom of thalamic infarct: a diagnostic challenge.
CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of thalamic infarcts that begin exclusively with amnesia is very difficult and this has negative repercussions on their treatment in the acute phase. These infarcts can produce a functionally disabling memory deficit in a high percentage of patients. PMID: 30906979 [PubMed - in process]

Prognosis of patients assisted in the emergency unit by the 'TIA protocol' in a third-level hospital at 90 days
CONCLUSIONS: Rapid TIA protocols allow early care and avoid hospital admissions, without increasing the incidence of cardiovascular events or recurrence of stroke or TIA at 90 days.PMID:35148420 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7404.2021236

Atrial fibrillation and cognitive impairment: a narrative review
CONCLUSIONS: AF and CI are an important health problem worldwide and the demographic trend predicts exponential growth of both conditions in the coming years. Therefore, it seems necessary to increase our knowledge of the pathophysiological mechanisms related to them in order to establish effective preventive strategies.PMID:36354300 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7510.2022252
