Conclusions Vascular imaging, especially with color-coded duplex sonography, could play a role in the follow-up of patients with GCA-related IS and identify those patients with higher risk of recurrent stroke.

Objectives The aims of this study were to compare the outcomes of patients primarily admitted for ischemic stroke with and without a secondary diagnosis of RA. Methods Data were abstracted from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) 2016 and 2017 database. The NIS was searched for hospitalizations for adult patients with ischemic stroke as principal diagnosis with and without RA as secondary diagnosis using International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision codes. Large Artery Dysfunction in Primary Antiphospholipid Syndrome
Conclusions The higher b/a ratio in APL patients suggests decreased distensibility of large arteries and may be why APL patients are at higher risk for cardiovascular events. The d/a ratio, that is considered a marker of small vessel vascular resistance, was not different than controls. Further studies are needed to evaluate vascular factors that predispose APL patients to atherosclerotic events.
