Dynamic changes of carotid atherosclerosis and their relations with stroke recurrence in patients with stroke or transient ischemic attack
CONCLUSION: Plaque progression occurred in 46% of stroke or TIA patients. Plaque progression was significantly associated with clinical stroke recurrence. Plaque regressed in 6.5% of patients. Patients with regression were younger than those without.PMID:35996235 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220822141804

Predictors of Survival in Patients With Ischemic Stroke and Active Cancer: A Prospective, Multicenter, Observational Study
Conclusions The prognosis of patients with acute ischemic stroke and active cancer varied considerably depending on stroke mechanism, distant metastasis, and coagulation abnormalities. The present study confirmed that coagulation abnormalities were crucial in determining the prognosis of such patients.PMID:37489755 | DOI:10.1161/JAHA.123.029618

Thoracic Aortic < sup > 18 < /sup > F-Sodium Fluoride Activity and Ischemic Stroke in Patients With Established Cardiovascular Disease
CONCLUSIONS: In patients with established cardiovascular disease, thoracic aortic 18F-sodium fluoride activity is associated with the progression of atherosclerosis and future ischemic stroke. Arterial 18F-sodium fluoride activity identifies localized areas of atherosclerotic disease activity that are directly linked to disease progression and downstream regional clinical atherothrombotic events. Extracranial Carotid Plaque Hemorrhage Is Independently Associated With Poor 3-month Functional Outcome After Acute Ischemic Stroke-A Prospective Cohort Study
Conclusions: Extracranial carotid IPH is significantly associated with poor 3-month outcome after acute ischemic stroke and can predict the poor 3-month functional prognosis.PMID:34970212 | PMC:PMC8712340 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2021.780436

Symptomatic Carotid Atheroma Inflammation Lumen-stenosis score compared with Oxford and Essen risk scores to predict recurrent stroke in symptomatic carotid stenosis
CONCLUSIONS: SCAIL predicted recurrent stroke, had discrimination better than chance, and improved the prognostic utility of ESRS, suggesting that measuring plaque inflammation may improve risk stratification in carotid stenosis.PMID:37480278 | DOI:10.1177/23969873231186911

Assessing the characteristics and diagnostic value of plaques for patients with acute stroke using high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging
CONCLUSIONS: A larger plaque area and smaller LA in the stenotic MCA, and obvious plaque enhancement might indicate that a patient is prone to acute stroke.PMID:35111645 | PMC:PMC8739121 | DOI:10.21037/qims-21-531

Sex Differences in Intracranial Atherosclerotic Plaques Among Patients With Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: For patients with ischemic stroke, the intracranial plaque burden in male patients was similar to that in female patients; however, the plaque characteristics in male patients are associated with higher risk, especially in culprit plaques.PMID:35845071 | PMC:PMC9280275 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.860675

Soluble low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1 as a surrogate marker of carotid plaque inflammation assessed by < sup > 18 < /sup > F-FDG PET in patients with a recent ischemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: sLRP1 was independently associated with carotid plaque inflammation as measured by 18F-FDG PET in patients with recent ischemic stroke and carotid atherosclerosis.PMID:36805772 | DOI:10.1186/s12967-022-03867-w

The role of intracranial artery calcification (IAC) in stroke subtype and risk of vascular events
CONCLUSION: In these multiethnic populations, IAC is associated with symptomatic and asymptomatic ILAS as well as higher mortality. IAC may be a useful marker of higher mortality, the role of IAC as an imaging marker of risk of stroke is less certain.PMID:37186970 | DOI:10.1016/j.jstrokecerebrovasdis.2023.107185
