Dual therapy with an oral non-vitamin K antagonist and a P2Y12 inhibitor vs triple therapy with aspirin, a P2Y12 inhibitor and a vitamin K antagonist for the treatment of diabetes mellitus patients with co-existing atrial fibrillation following percutaneous coronary intervention: A meta-analysis
Conclusions: DT with a NOAC and a P2Y12 inhibitor was associated with significantly less bleeding events without increasing the adverse cardiovascular outcomes when compared to TT with aspirin, a P2Y12 inhibitor and a Vitamin K antagonist for the treatment of DM patients with co-existing AF following PCI. Hence, DT is comparable in efficacy, but safer compared to TT. This interesting hypothesis will have to be confirmed in future studies.

Study for cerebral central network mechanism of acupuncture stimulation quantity based on changes of cerebral functional connection of fMRI
Conclusion: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the central mechanism of acupuncture stimulation quantity using time and frequency as control conditions. This study will provide reasonable stimulation parameters and strong mechanism evidence of cerebral central network for the use of acupuncture for ischemic stroke. CHICTR registration number: ChiCTR1900023169. Registered 15 May 2019.

Deceleration capacity for rapid risk stratification in patients suffering from acute ischemic stroke: A prospective exploratory pilot study
Deceleration capacitiy for rapid risk stratification in stroke patients Cerebral ischemia is a major cause of neurologic deficit and patients suffering from ischemic stroke bear a relevant risk of mortality. Identifying stroke patients at high mortality risk is of crucial clinical relevance. Deceleration capacity of heart rate (DC) as a parameter of cardiac autonomic function is an excellent predictor of mortality in myocardial infarction and heart failure patients. The aim of our study was to evaluate whether DC provides prognostic information regarding mortality risk in patients with acute ischemic stroke. From ...

Neurogenic fever due to injury of the hypothalamus in a stroke patient: Case report
We report on a stroke patient with neurogenic fever due to injury of hypothalamus, demonstrated by using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Patient concerns: A 28-year-old male patient was admitted to the rehabilitation department of university hospital at 30 months after onset. Brain MRI showed leukomalactic lesions in hypothalamus, bilateral medial temporal lobe, and bilateral basal ganglia. He showed intermittent high body temperature (maximum:39.5°C, range:38.5–39.2°C), but did not show any infection signs upon physical examination or after assessing his white blood cell count and inflammatory enzyme levels suc...

Association of serum vaspin, apelin, and visfatin levels and stroke risk in a Chinese case-control study
Adipose tissue acts as an active endocrine organ secreting a number of adipokines and may be involved in biological mechanism of stroke. Vaspin, apelin, and visfatin play important roles in the regulation of vascular disorders. Our aim was to evaluate whether the concentrations of vaspin, apelin, and visfatin were associated with stroke risk. A total of 235 patients with stroke (156 patients with ischemic stroke and 79 patients with hemorrhagic stroke) and 235 age- and gender-matched healthy controls were included in this study. A sandwich ELISA was developed to measure the serum vaspin, apelin, and visfatin levels. ...

Risk factors for and impact of poststroke pneumonia in patients with acute ischemic stroke
Poststroke pneumonia (PSP) is a common complication of stroke and an important cause of death following stroke. However, the treatment of PSP remains inadequate due to severe impairment to the respiratory system by PSP. Thus, it is crucial to focus on preventing PSP to improve the prognosis of patients with stroke. This prospective single-center Cohort study aimed to investigate the risk factors for pulmonary infection following an ischemic stroke and identify whether PSP significantly influences the prognosis of patients after stroke. Altogether, 451 patients who were treated for acute ischemic stroke in the First A...

Verification and comparison of three prediction models of ischemic stroke in young adults based on the back propagation neural networks
This work aims to explore risk factors for ischemic stroke in young adults and analyze the Traditional Vascular Risk Factors Model based on age, hypertension, diabetes, smoking history, and drinking history. Further, the Lipid Metabolism Model was analyzed based on lipoprotein a [LP (a)], high-density lipoprotein (HDL), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), apolipoprotein AI (apo AI), apolipoprotein B (apo B), and the Early Renal Injury Model based on urinary microalbuminuria/creatinine ratio (UACR). Besides, we estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), cystatin C (Cys-C), homocysteine (Hcy), β2 microglobulin (β2m), and vali...

Does CYP2C19 polymorphisms affect neurological deterioration in stroke/TIA patients?: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies
Conclusions: This meta-analysis demonstrated that the carriers of CYP2C19∗2, ∗3 loss-of-function alleles have an increased risk of neurological deterioration compared to non-carriers in stroke or TIA patients. Additionally, CYP2C19∗17 gain-of-function allele can reduce the risk of neurological deterioration.
