Relation Between Reach Distance and Center of Pressure Distance for Multidirectional Reach in Hemiplegic Patients
Seated reach is essential for many activities of daily living.1 In patients with hemiplegia, reach training can improve seated balance; however, reaching in the direction of the paralyzed or paretic side challenges seated balance, often causing postural control problems. Occupational therapists evaluate patients ’ seated balance during reaching tasks. Seated reach distances are generally shorter than standing reach distances. Previous studies have reported on unidirectional (e.g., forward or lateral) reach,2-6 however, multidirectional reach studies have been relatively rare.

Cerebral ischemia ‒reperfusion injury (CIRI) refers to the phenomenon that structural damage and dysfunction of the brain are further aggravated when blood perfusion is restored after cerebral ischemia for a certain time, which mainly causes apoptosis or necrosis of nerve cells.1 CIRI will result in severe cognitiv e and motor dysfunction.2,3 The current treatments are mainly thrombolysis, intervention, nutritional nerve, and rehabilitation training, but they cannot completely restore the neurological function of patients.
