Determinants of early case‐fatality among stroke patients in Maputo, Mozambique and impact of in‐hospital complications
The burden of stroke is increasing in developing countries that struggle to manage it efficiently. We identified determinants of early case‐fatality among stroke patients in Maputo, Mozambique, to assess the impact of in‐hospital complications. Patients admitted to any hospital in Maputo with a new stroke event were prospectively registered (n = 651) according to the World Health Organization's STEPwise approach, in 2005–2006. We assessed the determinants of in‐hospital and 28‐day fatality, independently of age, gender and education, and computed population attributable fractions. In‐hospital mortality was ...

Prehospital stroke scales in urban environments: A systematic review
Conclusions: Prehospital stroke scales varied in their accuracy and missed up to 30% of acute strokes in the field. Inconsistencies in performance may be due to sample size disparity, variability in stroke scale training, and divergent provider educational standards. Although LAPSS performed more consistently, visual comparison of graphical analysis revealed that LAPSS and CPSS had similar diagnostic capabilities.

The use of self-management strategies for stroke rehabilitation: a scoping review
CONCLUSIONS: This scoping review provides an important overview on stroke survivors' use of self-management strategies and their experience. Their use of self-management strategies is complicated and multifaceted, comprising several domains and involving a diverse range of approaches and personal experiences. However, we identified several gaps in the literature and more research is required.PMID:36165711 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2022.2127651
