Promoting physical activity after stroke via self-management: a feasibility study.
CONCLUSION: Self-management appears to be feasible and has the potential to increase physical activity in people with mild disability after stroke. A Phase II randomized trial is warranted. PMID: 28335690 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Post-acute hospital healthcare services for people with mild stroke: a scoping review.
CONCLUSION: Further development and assessment of services is warranted. Incorporation of the entire transition period, and research that is mild stroke and location-specific is advised. Attention to maximizing participation in daily life, secondary prevention, emotional well-being, and careful reporting is needed. PMID: 28024459 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Neurobehavioral disability in stroke patients during subacute inpatient rehabilitation: prevalence and biopsychosocial associations.
CONCLUSIONS: NBD is common within a subacute stroke inpatient population, particularly interpersonal and cognitive difficulties and preliminary analyses indicate associations with reduced functional ability, cognition and mood. There is a need to provide education and support to clinicians to facilitate routine assessment and management of NBD following stroke. PMID: 30213238 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Surviving a stroke in South Africa: outcomes of home-based care in a low-resource rural setting.
Conclusions: Clinical practice pathways and referral guidelines should be developed for the HCBC platform. Specific training of CHWs, focusing on how to educate, support and train family caregivers, provide assistive devices and refer to health services is needed. PMID: 31169468 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A scoping review of psychoeducational interventions for people after transient ischemic attack and minor stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: Definitions of stroke severity are not adequately reported. There are a variety of interventions including education about a range of stroke-specific topics. Many interventions are not adequately described, thus making it difficult to determine if the aim was to provide information or support post-TIA/minor stroke. There is a need for an in-depth systematic review to develop a clear definition of psychoeducation. PMID: 32996432 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Participation in the chronic phase of stroke.
Conclusions: Most participants experienced participation problems, despite relatively good physical recovery. In addition to physical and cognitive factors, subjective complaints of persons with stroke should be addressed in the rehabilitation program. PMID: 23340071 [PubMed - in process]

Cross-education of strength has a positive impact on post-stroke rehabilitation: a systematic literature review.
CONCLUSION: Based on best evidence synthesis guidelines the combination of the results included in this review suggest at least a moderate level of evidence for the application of cross-education of strength in stroke rehabilitation. Following this review it is recommended that additional high quality randomized controlled trials are conducted to further support the findings. PMID: 26907193 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The role of the social network during inpatient rehabilitation: A qualitative study exploring the views of older stroke survivors and their informal caregivers.
CONCLUSIONS: To enhance insight in the need of social support after discharge, we suggest that rehabilitation professionals are honest about what to expect and let stroke survivors explore their valued activities in a realistic context more often. PMID: 33427602 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Employment after stroke: report of a state of the science symposium.
Abstract For many stroke survivors, returning to work becomes an important emotional and functional milestone in signaling recovery. It can also provide needed financial support and reduce the burden placed on society in the form of government assistance. The complex nature of the return-to-work process involves many factors that may support or interfere with reintegration into the workforce. For the purpose of examining this important topic more closely, the Rehabilitation Research & Training Center on Enhancing the Functional and Employment Outcomes of Individuals Who Experience a Stroke held a State of the ...

A qualitative study on user acceptance of a home-based stroke telerehabilitation system.
Conclusion: Telerehabilitation systems can be used as an efficient and user-friendly tool to deliver home-based stroke rehabilitation that enhance patients' physical recovery and mental and social-emotional wellbeing. Such systems need to be designed to offer engaging experience, display of recovery progress, and flexibility of schedule and location, with consideration of facilitating and social factors. Factors associated with depressive symptoms of carepartners of stroke survivors after discharge from rehabilitation therapy.
Conclusions: Negative impacts of caregiving were found in this group of relatively high physically functioning SS which may hinder CP from providing optimal support for SS. Addressing CP needs including education regarding depression, fatigue, SS memory, and behavior problems, and family functioning while SS is receiving rehabilitation therapy may be important considerations to help facilitate the CP to support the SS in carrying over therapeutic activities in the home environment.
