Smoking intensity changes during the COVID-19 pandemic waves in a cohort of smokers in Italy
CONCLUSIONS: After 2 years of pandemic, cigarettes/day have not yet returned to the pre-pandemic levels, mainly due to socio-demographic factors, but also to nicotine addiction, that tends to stabilize consumption.PMID:37712240 | DOI:10.4415/ANN_23_03_08

Looking Cool, Doing Tricks, Managing Stress, and Nicotine Addiction: Youth Perspectives on Nicotine Vaping and Implications for Prevention
CONCLUSION: When considered with other studies, our findings suggest a universality in the youth vaping experience that is highly social. Interventions should include peer-to-peer messaging with an emphasis on changing social norms and highlighting undesirable outcomes of vaping such as negative reactions by friends and close adults, adverse effects on athletic success and future aspirations, expense, addiction, and punishment. Parent education is also recommended. Rigorous research is needed to test interventions to reverse the growing trend of youth vaping.PMID:37462022 | DOI:10.1177/08901171231189560

Challenges and opportunities associated with e-cigarettes in Australia: A qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Despite strong restrictions on e-cigarettes in Australia, experts working in this field reported that these products, and the companies behind them, present several challenges to public health.IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC HEALTH: Tighter regulation and increased enforcement are needed to address the challenges posed by e-cigarettes. Controlled access to liquid nicotine under a pharmaceutical model offers an opportunity for smokers to access the behavioural support that may help them to quit while also restricting e-cigarette availability.PMID:36693288 | DOI:10.1016/j.anzjph.2022.100006
