Lithium Bis(oxalate)borate Additive for Self-repairing Zincophilic Solid Electrolyte Interphases towards Ultrahigh-rate and Ultra-stable Zinc Anodes
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 11:e202311032. doi: 10.1002/anie.202311032. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) plays a pivotal role in Zn anode stabilization but its long-term effectiveness at high rates is still challenged. Herein, to achieve superior long-life and high-rate Zn anode, an exquisite electrolyte additive, lithium bis(oxalate)borate (LiBOB), is proposed to in-situ derive a highly Zn2+-conductive SEI and to dynamically patrol its cycling-initiated defects. Profiting from the as-constructed real-time, automatic SEI repairing mechanism, the Zn anode can be cycled wit...

Alkaline Ni-Zn Rechargeable Batteries for Sustainable Energy Storage: Battery Components, Deterioration Mechanisms, and Impact of Additives
ChemSusChem. 2023 Sep 8:e202300940. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300940. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe demand for long-term, sustainable, and low-cost battery energy storage systems with high power delivery capabilities for stationary grid-scale energy storage, as well as the necessity for safe lithium-ion battery alternatives, has renewed interest in aqueous zinc-based rechargeable batteries. The Alkaline Ni-Zn rechargeable battery chemistry was identified as a promising technology for sustainable energy storage applications, albeit a considerable investment in academic research, it still fails to deliver the requisite perfor...

Constructing Solid Electrolyte Interphase for Aqueous Zinc Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 19:e202309957. doi: 10.1002/anie.202309957. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProblems of zinc anode including dendrite and hydrogen evolution seriously degrade the performance of zinc batteries. Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), which plays a key role in achieving high reversibility of lithium anode in aprotic organic solvent, is also beneficial to performance improvement of zinc anode in aqueous electrolyte. However, various studies about interphase for zinc electrode is quite fragmented, and lack of deep understanding on root causes or general design rules for SEI construction. And water m...

Balancing Interfacial Reactions through Regulating p-Band Centers by an Indium Tin Oxide Protective Layer for Stable Zn Metal Anodes
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Aug 10:e202308454. doi: 10.1002/anie.202308454. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetallic zinc (Zn) is considered as one of the most attractive anode materials for the post-lithium metal battery systems owing to the high theoretical capacity, low cost, and intrinsic safety. However, the Zn dendrites and parasitic side reaction impede its application. Herein, we propose a new principle of regulating p-band center of metal oxide protective coating to balance Zn adsorption energy and migration energy barrier for effective Zn deposition and stripping. Experimental results and theoretical calculations ...

Diboriranide σ-complexes of d- and p-block metals
We report a straightforward synthesis of the first peraryl diboriranide c-(DurB)2CPh- as its lithium salt via the corresponding non-classical diborirane from a readily available 1,2-dichlorodiborane(4) (Dur = 2,3,5,6-tetramethylphenyl). With the preparation and complete characterization of representative complexes with tin, copper, gold and zinc, we demonstrate the strong preference of the diboriranide for σ-type coordination modes towards main group and transition metal centers under unperturbed retention of the three-membered B2C-ring's 2e- π-system.PMID:37522813 | DOI:10.1002/anie.202308678

Zn promotes chemical looping ammonia synthesis mediated by a LiH-Li2NH couple
ChemSusChem. 2023 Jul 18:e202300813. doi: 10.1002/cssc.202300813. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChemical looping ammonia synthesis (CLAS) is a promising alternative route to ammonia production because of its advantages on avoiding competitive adsorption of N2 and hydrogen source (H2O or H2) and intervening the scaling relations in the catalytic process. Our previous studies showed that NH3 can be synthesized at low temperatures via a CLAS mediated by an alkali or alkaline earth metal hydride-imide couple with the aid of transition metal catalysts. Herein, we demonstrate that a group IIB metal Zn, which has rarely been stud...

Preparation of pyrolysis products by catalytic pyrolysis of poplar: Application of biochar in antibiotic wastewater treatment and energy storage
Chemosphere. 2023 Jul 15:139519. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2023.139519. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoplar waste is acted as feedstock to produce renewable biofuel and green chemical by catalytic pyrolysis using ferric nitrate and zinc chloride as additive. The additive contributes to the generation of furfural in bio-oil. Additive promotes the generation of H2 and inhibits the generation of CO with bio-gas heating value of 12.16 MJ (Nm3)-1. Biochar exists ZnO and Fe3O4 with large surface area, which could be used as absorbent and photocatalyst for tetracycline and ciprofloxacin removal. The tetracycline and ciprofloxac...
