Re-evaluating the Magnesium-ion Storage Capability of Vanadium Dioxide, VO2(B): Uncovering the Influ--ence of Water Content on the Previously Overestimated High Capacity
According to this study, the impressive capacity of magnesium-ion battery cathodes may be exaggerated due to the involvement of non-magnesium-ion insertion unless the electrolytes' water content is appropriately regulated.PMID:37518818 | DOI:10.1002/cssc.202300758

Lithium Promotes Acetylide Formation on MgO During Methane Coupling Under Non-Oxidative Conditions
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Jul 24:e202307814. doi: 10.1002/anie.202307814. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA prototypical material for the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) is Li/MgO, for which Li is known to be essential as a dopant to obtain high C2 selectivities. Herein, Li/MgO is demonstrated to be an effective catalyst for non-oxidative coupling of methane (NOCM). Moreover, the presence of Li is shown to favor the formation of magnesium acetylide (MgC2), while pure MgO promotes coke formation as evidenced by solid-state 13C NMR, thus indicating that Li promotes C-C bond formation. Metadynamic simulations of the carb...

Reactive Magnesium Nitride Additive: A Drop-in Solution for Lithium/Garnet Wetting in All-Solid-State Batteries
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 May 2:e202305099. doi: 10.1002/anie.202305099. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGarnet oxides such as Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12 (LLZTO) are promising solid electrolyte materials for all-solid-state lithium-metal batteries because of high ionic conductivity, low electronic leakage, and wide electrochemical stability window. While LLZTO has been frequently discussed to be stable against lithium metal anode, it is challenging to achieve and maintain good solid-on-solid wetting at the metal/ceramic interface in both processing and extended electrochemical cycling. Here we address the challenge by a powder...

Electrochemically Activated Expanded Graphite with Tailor-made Pores for Magnesium-Organocation Hybrid Batteries
In this study, we targeted to increase the capacity and rate capability of porous carbon cathode of MOHB by generating tailor-made pores, which were provided by the interlayer accommodation of solvated organic cations with controlled sizes during the electrochemical activation of expanded graphite. Our electrochemically activated expanded graphite can be used as an efficient cathode in MOHB with enhanced kinetics, specific capacitance, and cycle life.PMID:37041116 | DOI:10.1002/cssc.202300035

Ionothermal Synthesis of Novel Layered Magnesium Phosphate and its Tribological Properties as  Grease additives
Chem Asian J. 2023 Apr 3:e202300108. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300108. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA novel layered magnesium phosphate (MgP) was synthesised from a MgO-P2O5-choline chloride-oxalic acid dihydrate system using an ionothermal approach. Single crystal samples of MgP were obtained following introduction of diethylamine (DEA) to the reaction system. Its structure revealed that both the layer and the sheets contained Mg octahedra. Interestingly, adding the layered material to lithium grease resulted in superior lubrication with higher load-carrying, anti-wear and friction reduction capacities compared with the typic...

Comprehensive Study of the Enhanced Reactivity of Turbo-Grignard Reagents
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Mar 27:e202302489. doi: 10.1002/anie.202302489. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince its introduction in 2004, Knochel's so called Turbo-Grignard reagents revolutionized the usage of Grignard reagents. Through the simple addition of LiCl to a magnesium alkyl an outstanding increase in reactivity can be achieved. Though the exact composition of the reactive species remained mysterious, the reactive mixture itself is readily used not only in synthesis but also found its way into more distant fields like material science. To unravel this mystery, we combined single-crystal X-ray diffraction with in...

Evaluation of Drinking Water Quality From Water Coolers in Makkah, Saudi Arabia
Environ Health Insights. 2023 Mar 9;17:11786302231163676. doi: 10.1177/11786302231163676. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTThe quality of drinking water is an important health issue in crowded cities, so that an adequate drinking water with good quality must be provided, hence over hundreds of water coolers are distributed in Makkah city to cope with the increasing demand for drinking water. The present study aimed to determine the chemical and microbial quality of drinking water from coolers in Makkah city. Sixty-three samples from randomly selected water coolers were tested for chemical and bacteriological quality. For all sampl...
