A US-based national surveillance study for the susceptibility and epidemiology of < em > Clostridioides difficile < /em > isolates with special reference to ridinilazole: 2020-2021
Antimicrob Agents Chemother. 2023 Sep 20:e0034923. doi: 10.1128/aac.00349-23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe have previously reported on the susceptibility and epidemiology of Clostridioides difficile isolates from six geographically dispersed medical centers in the United States. This current survey was conducted with isolates collected in 2020-2021 from six geographically dispersed medical centers in the United States, with specific attention to susceptibility to ridinilazole as well as nine comparators. C. difficile isolates or stools from patients with C. difficile antibiotic-associated diarrhea were collected and re...

Rapid degradation and detoxification of metronidazole using calcium sulfite activated by CoCu two-dimensional layered bimetallic hydroxides: Performance, mechanism, and degradation pathway
In this study, cobalt copper-layered double hydroxides (CoCu-LDHs) were prepared by coprecipitation as catalysts to activate CaSO3 for metronidazole (MNZ) degradation. This is the first report on layered double hydroxides activating sulfite for the degradation of organic pollutants. Meanwhile, to address the issue of self-quenching reactions readily occurring in conventional sulfite advanced oxidation systems and resulting in low oxidant efficiency, CaSO3 with slightly soluble in water was used instead of commonly used Na2SO3, to improve the limitations of traditional systems. The results showed that in the CoCu-LDHs/CaSO3...

Molecular imprinted polymer-based potentiometric approach for the assay of the co-formulated tetracycline HCl, metronidazole and bismuth subcitrate in capsules and spiked human plasma
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Oct 16;1278:341707. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341707. Epub 2023 Aug 10.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: An anti-H-pylori co-formulated mixture of tetracycline HCl (TET), metronidazole (MET), and bismuth subcitrate (BSC) is recently available. Only two chromatographic and spectrophotometric methods are reported for determining those drugs simultaneously where the effect of impurities that could be present as well as the biological fluids matrix influence do not be taken into consideration. There is a need to develop an easy-to-use potentiometric technique for analysis of TET, MET, and BSC in their co-formulated capsul...

Efficacy of a 1  day Rifaximin and Metronidazole Regimen and Mechanical Bowel Preparation for Preventing Surgical Site Infection in Minimally Invasive Colorectal Cancer Surgery: A Prospective Observational Study
DISCUSSION: A 1 day rifaximin and metronidazole regimen with mechanical bowel preparation for elective minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer was associated with a favorable SSI rate of 2.9%, safety, and high compliance. This approach is appropriate for inclusion in the current guidelines for perioperative management of patients scheduled to undergo minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer.PMID:37707885 | DOI:10.1177/00031348231200667
