Paracetamol dosing for children in UK hospitals causes debate and disagreement between clinicians. We think that the current recommendations in the British National Formulary for Children (BNFC) for oral paracetamol contribute to this. The doses recommended for all indications, except postoperative pain, are based on the age of the child rather than their weight.1 We understand that the BNFC reflects the recommended dose for over-the-counter (OTC) use of paracetamol and therefore needs to be easy for parents to use, however, additional information about suitable doses for hospitalised children is needed. We decided to surv...

An international survey of 1014 hernia surgeons: outcome of GLACIER (global practice of inguinal hernia repair) study
ConclusionThis survey identified similarities and variations in practice internationally and some discrepancies in inguinal hernia repair compared to best practice guidelines, such as low rates of repair using local anaesthesia and the use of lightweight mesh for minimally invasive repair. It also identifies several key areas for future research, such as incidence, risk factors, and management of chronic groin pain after hernia surgery and the clinical and cost-effectiveness of robotic hernia surgery.

What MDMA Taught Me About Human Connection
When I force myself to think back on the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, a few key memories come to mind: Me, endlessly checking the news for the latest frightening updates. The eerily quiet streets of Brooklyn, save for the sirens of speeding ambulances. Nights spent toggling between insomnia and vivid nightmares. At the core of it, though, I felt profoundly disconnected from the community around me—and to some extent myself. Knowing that so many other people were going through the same thing as me was of little comfort because they felt completely unreachable. Sure, I could hang out with friends on Zoom, but those stilted,...
