The impact of brain atrophy on the outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy
CONCLUSIONS: The few studies available highlight heterogeneity of neuroimaging methodologies for assessing brain atrophy and difficulty addressing the multiple confounders involved in clinical outcomes. More consistent, accurate investigation is needed before proposing brain atrophy as a possible parameter to improve patient selection for MT.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: Brain atrophy is associated with many of the clinical confounders frequently present in patients with acute ischemic stroke. Heterogeneity in classification methodologies for brain atrophy and complexity analyzing multiple clinical confounders make it difficult t...

Association between pericoronary adipose tissue attenuation and outcome after second-generation cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSION: Pre-ablation CTA-derived 3V-PCATA, representing pericoronary inflammation, was an independent predictor of recurrence after first-session AF ablation using a second-generation cryoballoon.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: Assessment of 3V-PCATA may identify patients at high risk of AF recurrence after CBA for AF.PMID:34520243 | DOI:10.1259/bjr.20210361

Analysis of left ventricular function, left ventricular outflow tract and aortic valve area using computed tomography: Influence of reconstruction parameters on measurement accuracy
CONCLUSIONS: Modifications of reconstruction parameters (except a slice thickness ≤2 mm) have only a marginal effect on LV, LVOTarea and AVA assessment. However, a reduced number of reconstructions per cardiac cycle may significantly influence measurements.ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: Substantial modifications in number of reconstructions per cardiac cycle significantly affect the assessment of LV function, LVOTarea and AVA also in modern CT scanners.PMID:34233477 | DOI:10.1259/bjr.20201306

Diagnosis and endovascular management of pulmonary arteriovenous malformations
Br J Radiol. 2021 May 26:20200695. doi: 10.1259/bjr.20200695. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are abnormal communication of a branch of the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein circumventing the intervening pulmonary capillaries. This results in a right-to-left (R-L) shunt and its related manifestations, which include hampered gas exchange leading to hypoxaemia, dyspnoea, paradoxical emboli leading to stroke, cerebral abscess, myocardial infarction and pulmonary haemorrhage due to rupture of the PAVM. Endovascular transcatheter embolization of the feeding vessels with coils or occl...
