Fluoro-edenite non-neoplastic diseases in Biancavilla (Sicily, Italy): pleural plaques and/or pneumoconiosis?
CONCLUSIONS: Asbestosis-like features were substantiated in Biancavilla residents without known occupational exposure to asbestos. Further studies to estimate population respiratory health are required. Experimental studies on the fibrogenic potential of fluoro-edenite are needed.PMID:37712235 | DOI:10.4415/ANN_23_03_03

A comparison of radiographic degeneration features of older Chinese women and older Italian Caucasian women with a focus on thoracic spine
CONCLUSION: For the first time, this study documented a lower prevalence of a number of thoracic spine degeneration features among Chinese. This study further affirms the concept of a generally healthier spine in older Chinese relative to older Caucasians. The observed differences may reflect a foundational background influence of genetic predisposition that represents an important line of future research.PMID:37646923 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02537-1

Implant breakage and revision factors for modular fluted tapered stems in revision total hip arthroplasty
CONCLUSIONS: At 5-year follow-up, the MFT implant showed a good survivorship and outcomes with no specific complications. Unlike literature reports, no specific complications occurred with this design. Stem junction positioning and therefore metaphyseal length may be key to optimise long-term survivorship. However, a longer follow-up is needed as implant breakage is more often seen after long implantation times.PMID:37306180 | DOI:10.1177/11207000231180065
