Acute kidney injury in Malaysian intensive care setting: Incidences, risk factors, and outcome
Conclusions: AKI is common in our ICU, with higher morbidity and mortality. Independent risk factors of AKI include age, the severity of illness, sepsis and preexisting hypertension, and chronic cardiovascular disease. AKI independently contributes to mortality. The presence of AKI and sepsis increased the risk of mortality by three times.

How useful is extravascular lung water measurement in managing lung injury in intensive care unit ?
Conclusions: EVLWI and PVPI may have a prognostic significance in the assessment of lung injury in septic shock patients with ARDS. Further research is required to reveal the usefulness of EVLWI as an end point of fluid resuscitation in the management of septic shock with ARDS.

Thromboelastographic analysis of hemostatic abnormalities in dengue patients admitted in a multidisciplinary intensive care unit: A cross-sectional study
Conclusion: Factor deficiency pattern was the major abnormality noted in dengue patients followed by platelet dysfunction and primary fibrinolysis. Platelet count did not show significant association with platelet function. aPTT did not show significant association with factor deficiency and low fibrinogen patterns. Factor deficiency pattern and low fibrinogen pattern did not show significant association with hepatitis.

Clinicoetiological pattern and outcome of neonates requiring mechanical ventilation: Study in a tertiary care centre
Mohini Yadav, Gauri Chauhan, AK Bhardwaj, PD SharmaIndian Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2018 22(5):361-363The clinical and etiological pattern of ventilated newborns, their outcome in relation to morbidity and mortality was studied with 50 ventilated newborns, including outborns. M:f ratio was 2.1:1. The most common gestational age 28–36 weeks (60%) and mostly were appropriate for gestational age (66%). Survival rate 40% (20/50) being directly proportional to the gestational age and intrauterine growth pattern (P < 0.01). Babies by LSCS Lower Segment Cessarian Se...

Comparison of International Pediatric Sepsis Consensus Conference Versus Sepsis-3 Definitions for Children Presenting With Septic Shock to a Tertiary Care Center in India: A Retrospective Study*
Conclusions: Less than half of children with septic shock identified by International Pediatric Sepsis Consensus Conference definitions were observed to fulfill the criteria for shock as per “Sepsis-3” definitions. Lack of difference in the risk of mortality between children who fulfilled “Sepsis-3” definition and those who did not fulfill the definition raises questions on the appropriateness of using this definition for diagnosis of septic shock in children.

Cervical myelopathy in a child: A rare cause of hypoventilation syndrome presenting with Type 2 respiratory failure
Alolika Mondal, Prabhas Prasun GiriIndian Journal of Critical Care Medicine 2018 22(4):303-305Hypoventilation syndrome leading to Type 2 respiratory failure is not a rare cause of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit admission and mechanical ventilation. Common causes in pediatric population are Guillain–Barre syndrome and various central nervous system disorders such as encephalitis, traumatic brain injury, and drugs. Any injury or disease in the cervical cord can also produce respiratory paralysis causing respiratory failure. Here, we present two cases of mixed cerebral palsy with cervical myelopathy due to compres...
