Risk profiles and One-year outcomes of patients with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation in India: Insights from the GARFIELD-AF Registry
ConclusionCompared to previously published registries from India, GARFIELD-AF registry describes clinical profiles and outcomes in Indian patients with AF of a different etiology. The registry data shows that compared to the rest of the world, Indian AF patients are younger with more diabetes and CAD. Patients with a higher stroke risk are more likely to receive anticoagulation therapy with VKA but are under-dosed compared with the global average in GARFIELD-AF.

Open-labeled randomized controlled trial to evaluate the 1-year clinical outcomes of polymer-free sirolimus-eluting coronary stents as compared with biodegradable polymer-based sirolimus-eluting coronary stents
ConclusionThe 1 year MACE rates are comparable in patients who underwent elective coronary revascularization using sirolimus eluting polymer-free and biodegradable polymer stents.

Short- and Long-Term Follow-up of Antithrombotic Management Patterns in Patients Hospitalized with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS): Indian Subgroup of EPICOR-Asia Study
ConclusionThis study showed a gap between international recommendations and implementation for managing ACS in Indian patients.. Most of the patients prefer to undergo invasive management instead of noninvasive therapy.. At the end of 2-year follow up more than half of the population were receiving DAPT, with most patients on receiving a combination of aspirin and clopidogrel The mortality along with composite events of death, MI, or ischemic stroke was highest for NSTEMI patients.

Salt Sensitivity and its implication in clinical practice
Publication date: Available online 10 October 2017 Source:Indian Heart Journal Author(s): Sundeep Mishra, Shahu Ingole, Rishi Jain Hypertension (HTN) is a complex multi-factorial disease and is considered as one of the foremost modifiable risk factors for stroke, heart failure, ischemic heart disease and renal dysfunction. Over the past century, salt and its linkage to HTN and cardiovascular (CV) mortality has been the subject of intense scientific research. There is now consensus that different individuals have different susceptibilities to blood pressure (BP)-raising effects of salt and is called as salt sensitivity. Va...

Sacubitril/Valsartan: A Novel Angiotensin Receptor-Neprilysin Inhibitor
Conclusion Effective reduction of blood pressure to accepted goals is the key to reduce the risk of CV events and stroke. Dual inhibition of neprilysin and the angiotensin receptor with sacubitril/valsartan may represent an attractive and serendipitous therapeutic approach for a range of CV diseases, including hypertension and HF, in which vasoconstriction, volume overload and neuro-hormonal activation play a part in pathophysiology. Sacubitril/Valsartan appears to be more efficacious in reducing blood pressure than currently available ACEi and ARBs with a similar safety and tolerability profile. Besides, pleiotropic benef...

Gender Disparities with the Use of Percutaneous Left Ventricular Assist Device in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Complicated by Cardiogenic Shock: From pLVAD Working Group
Conclusions Despite the small number of cohorts, this study did not reveal any significant differences among gender with the use of percutaneous left ventricular assist devices for PCI in patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by CS. However, initiation of Impella prior to PCI may be associated with improved mortality and morbidity in both genders.

One-year clinical outcome of percutaneous coronary intervention with very long ( ≥ 40 mm) drug-eluting stent
Conclusion Use of very long stents (≥40 mm) for diffuse coronary lesions is safe and effective with acceptably low event rates. No significant differences in event rates were observed between the types of DES used in this study (Sirolimus Vs. everolimus).
