Late ‐onset Pompe's disease in a hemodialysis patient: A first case report
Abstract A 37‐year‐old hemodialysis patient appeared with unusual somnolence during 2 successive hemodialysis sessions. Blood gas analysis revealed hypercapnic respiratory failure and spirometry restrictive lung disease. After exclusion of other causes of restrictive lung disease with chest CT‐scan and cerebrum MRI, electrophysiological study revealed myopathy. Because besides lordosis and limb‐girdle gait the patient was ambulant the possibility of late‐onset Pompe's disease was set and confirmed with evaluation of α‐glucosidase activity and genetic analysis. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) with aglucosidase...

Investigation of Factors Affecting the Six‐Minute Walk Test Results in Hemodialysis Patients
Abstract Renal anemia, uremic myopathy, and malnutrition are some of the factors that affect the results of the 6‐minute walk test (6MWT) in hemodialysis patients. We hypothesized that skeletal muscle dysfunction caused by skeletal myolysis, protein hypercatabolism, and mitochondrial deficiency are strongly related factors. The purpose of this study was to clarify the factors that affect the 6MWT results in hemodialysis patients to assess their exercise tolerance. The study included 43 outpatients from the hemodialysis unit. The 6MWT was performed, and knee extension strength, 1‐leg standing time, and grip were measure...
