A population‐based study investigating chronic rhinosinusitis and the incidence of asthma
ConclusionResults indicate that one in 13 individuals with CRS will be subsequently diagnosed with asthma. Given the economic burden and use of healthcare services associated with asthma, providers managing CRS may consider increased awareness and subsequent treatment for asthma.

Productivity outcomes following endoscopic sinus surgery for recurrent acute rhinosinusitis
ConclusionsRARS patients report baseline productivity losses and disease‐specific QOL impairment to levels that parallel those with CRSsNP. Patients with RARS report improvement in QOL following ESS in all disease‐specific QOL measures and in several medication measures. Productivity losses and postoperative improvements are similar between patients with RARS and CRSsNP.

Imaging follow‐up study of acute rhinosinusitis
ConclusionsParanasal mucosal abnormalities and occlusion of the OMC do not develop gradually during ARS, but are present when symptoms begin and remain fairly constant in most patients both with and without bacterial ARS. This indicates that the spread of the disease process to the paranasal sinuses and obstruction of the OMC may not be etiological factors in the development of bacterial ARS.

Foot‐controlled robotic‐enabled endoscope holder for endoscopic sinus surgery: A cadaveric feasibility study
ConclusionThe FREE endoscope holder in an ex‐vivo cadaver test corroborated the feasibility of the robotic prototype, which allows for a two‐handed approach to surgery equal to a single nostril three‐handed technique without the holder that may reduce operating time. Further studies will be needed to evaluate its safety profile and use in other areas of endoscopic surgery.

Determinants of racial differences in survival for sinonasal cancer
ConclusionThis study confirms the difference in racial survival in sinonasal cancer. In opposition to popular theories of access to care and education level‐ and poverty level‐determining outcomes, those factors were not significant on multivariate analysis, whereas stage and receiving standard of care, determined by unimodality versus multimodality treatment appropriate to stage, were the two most important prognostic factors.

The role of trigeminal function in the sensation of nasal obstruction in chronic rhinosinusitis
ConclusionsThis is the first study to demonstrate that patients with CRS have lower TS than healthy controls. Our results suggest defective TS could play a role in the sensation of nasal obstruction in CRS.

Propensity score analysis of endoscopic and open approaches to malignant paranasal and anterior skull base tumor outcomes
ConclusionIn this study, endoscopic surgery was shown to be a safe alternative to the open technique, even when controlling for the favorable patient and tumor characteristics in endoscopic patients. This is the first study to account for these differences with a rigorous statistical methodology.

Three‐dimensional virtual navigation versus conventional image guidance: A randomized controlled trial
ConclusionReal‐time 3D image guidance did not influence accuracy, efficiency, or task workload when compared to conventional triplanar image guidance. The subtle pooled accuracy advantage for the 3DV view is unlikely to be of clinical significance. Experience level was strongly correlated to task completion time and workload but did not influence accuracy.

Antibiotic prescription for acute rhinosinusitis: Emergency departments versus primary care providers
ConclusionMore than half of ARS patients presenting to PCPs and EDs are prescribed antibiotics. There was no differential antibiotic prescription for ED versus PCP presentation. ARS patients in the Northeast were more likely to receive antibiotics from PCPs, whereas no such variation was seen for EDs. Interventions targeting PCPs, especially in the Northeast, may reduce excessive antibiotic utilization.

Nasal obstruction has a limited impact on sleep quality and quality of life in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis
ConclusionsNasal obstruction appears to have a limited association with CRS‐specific QOL and CRS‐associated decrease in SQ. Further, the NOSE instrument, because it contains a question about sleep, may have overlap with the PSQI as a measure of SQ. The total NOSE score in CRS patients does not appear to be purely a measure of nasal obstruction.
