Identification and characterization of a novel PRR of fibrinogen-related protein in Apostichopus japonicus
Publication date: Available online 6 August 2018Source: Fish & Shellfish ImmunologyAuthor(s): Liting Jiang, Yina Shao, Ronglian Xing, Chenghua Li, Yi Cui, Weiwei Zhang, Xuelin ZhaoAbstractFibrinogen-related proteins (FREPs) play important roles in innate immunity by recognizing pathogen associated molecular patterns on pathogenic bacteria surfaces via conserved fibrinogen-like domain (FBG). In this paper, the full-length cDNA of Apostichopus japonicus FREP (designated as AjFREP) was cloned combined with rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) and transcriptome sequencing. The full-length cDNA of AjFREP was of 2110 bp with ...

Molecular cloning and functional characterisation of NLRX1 in grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella)
Publication date: October 2018Source: Fish & Shellfish Immunology, Volume 81Author(s): Pengfei Chu, Libo He, Yangyang Li, Rong Huang, Lanjie Liao, Yongming Li, Zuoyan Zhu, Yaping WangAbstractThe nucleotide-binding domain and leucine-rich-repeat-containing (NLR) proteins regulate innate immunity. Although the positive regulatory impact of NLRs is clear, their inhibitory roles are not well defined. In the present study, the NLR family gene NLRX1 from grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) was cloned and characterised. NLRX1 was widely expressed in all tissues examined, albeit at varying levels. After exposure to the grass carp...

Functional domains of Litopenaeus vannamei transglutaminase and their involvement in immunoregulation in shrimp
Publication date: October 2018Source: Fish & Shellfish Immunology, Volume 81Author(s): Zhou Zheng, Wenning Xu, Jude Juventus Aweya, Mingqi Zhong, Shangjie Liu, Jingsheng Lun, Jiehui Chen, Yueling ZhangAbstractShrimps, which mainly rely on their innate immune system to response to infectious pathogens, have clottable proteins as an important component of this system. While transglutaminases (TGase) are found in Litopenaeus vannamei and constitute part of the coagulation system, the specific immune-related roles played by its functional domains in the immunoregulation of shrimp has not been well understood. In the present st...

Eriocheir sinensis microRNA-7 targets crab Myd88 to enhance white spot syndrome virus replication
In this study, the function of microRNA-7 (miR-7) in host-virus interaction was investigated. Replication of White spot syndrome virus (WSSV) was enhanced with the overexpression of miR-7 and inhibited with the downregulation of miR-7 by using anti-miRNA oligonucleotide AMO-miR-7. The target gene of miR-7 was predicted using bioinformatics methods. Results showed that crab myeloid differentiation factor 88 (Myd88) could be targeted by miR-7. When the expression of Myd88 was knocked down by sequence-specific siRNA, WSSV copies in crabs were significantly increased. Further findings revealed that knockdown of Myd88, Tube, or...

Thymosin β4 is involved in the antimicrobial immune response of Golden pompano, Trachinotus ovatus
Publication date: October 2017 Source:Fish & Shellfish Immunology, Volume 69 Author(s): Yun Sun, Xiaojuan Chen, Yue Xu, Qiaohong Liu, Xue Jiang, Shifeng Wang, Weiliang Guo, Yongcan Zhou Thymosin beta belongs to the thymosin family, which consists of a series of highly conserved peptides involved in various biological processes. In teleosts, understanding of the immunological functions of thymosin beta is limited, particularly in vivo, which is essentially unknown. In the current study, we cloned and identified thymosin beta 4 from the teleost fish Golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus), which we have named TroTβ4. ...

Function analysis of fish Tollip gene in response to virus infection
Publication date: December 2015 Source:Fish & Shellfish Immunology, Volume 47, Issue 2 Author(s): Jingguang Wei, Meng Xu, Xiuli Chen, Ping Zhang, Pingfei Li, Shina Wei, Yang Yan, Qiwei Qin Toll-interacting protein (Tollip) is one of the important regulatory proteins of Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling pathways. In previous studies, a Tollip sequence of grouper (Epinephelus coioides) was identified and the signal transduction functions of Tollip were studied. However, the response of Tollip to virus infection has not been characterized from grouper. In the present paper, the Tollip homolog (EtTollip) fro...
