Peanut oral immunotherapy: Reconsidering a one-size-fits-all approach
In 2020, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved peanut oral immunotherapy (POIT) with Arachis hypogaea allergen powder (Palforzia, Aimmune, Brisbane, California) as the first therapeutic treatment for peanut allergy (PA) in children aged 4 to 17 years.1 This tremendous effort, arguably more than 100 years in the making, after Alfred Schofield's initial report of egg OIT in 1908,2 has undoubtedly reshaped our approach to managing food allergy (FA) and continues to pave the way for ongoing efforts, including investigations into POIT for younger children and OIT regimens involving adjunct therapies, including biologics.
