Impact of Merging Electronic Medical Records on Penicillin Allergy Relabeling
Penicillin allergy is commonly reported by hospitalized patients, however at our institution 56% of patients we tested had a remote history of penicillin allergy ( ≥20 years since reaction), 23% could not recall when their reaction occurred, and 30% were unable to identify the adverse reaction. In recent years, unconfirmed penicillin allergy has been associated with longer hospital stays, increased prevalence of C. difficile, MRSA, and VRE, increased healthc are costs, and increased risk of surgical site infections.

Medical Errors Should Not Be Our 3rd Leading Cause of Death
Suppose two jumbo jets crashed every day, killing a total of about 365,000 people in a year. Remarkably enough that's about the level of carnage caused every year in our country by avoidable medical mistakes. We would never tolerate such an incredible loss of life were it caused by recurring plane crashes (or most anything else).
