The effect of hydrochlorothiazide on the recurrence of nonmelanoma skin cancer: a 7-year retrospective study comprising 300 patients
This study aims to investigate the association between HCTZ use and recurrence in patients with NMSC.METHODS: We identified cases with NMSC from our hospital archives during the period between 2013 and 2019. Patients were divided into groups according to the pathological diagnosis, HCTZ use, and recurrence. Multivariable analysis was performed to determine factors associated with recurrence in BCC and SCC.RESULTS: Recurrences of BCC were significantly higher in HCTZ users with ORs of 4.839221 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.22-19.12).In HCTZ users, NMSC cases were associated with increased age (p < 0.001 for both BCC a...

The effect of different boron compounds on nutrient digestibility, intestinal nutrient transporters, and liver lipid metabolism
This study aimed to determine the effects of different boron (B) derivatives on nutrient digestibility, intestinal nutrient transporters, and lipid metabolism in rats.METHODS: Twenty-one rats were allocated to three groups (n = 7) as follows: (i) Control, (ii) Sodium pentaborate pentahydrate (SPP), and (iii) boric acid (BA). The rats were fed a chow diet (AIN-93M) and supplemented with 8 mg/kg elemental B from SPP (45.2 mg/kg BW) and BA (42.7 mg/kg BW) via oral gavage every other day for 12 weeks. The nutrient digestibility of rats in each group was measured using the indigestible indicator (chromium oxide, Cr2 O3, 0.20%)....

Exosome-mediated long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) PART1 suppresses malignant progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma via miR-17-5p/SOCS6 axis
This study aimed to explore effects of exosome-mediated lncRNA PART1 on OSCC cells.METHODS: This study was performed in Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute from February 2021 to March 2022. Bioinformatic analysis was performed on the public database GEPIA (http://gepia.cancer-pku.cn/). Exosomes isolated from cell lines squamous cell carcinoma 9 (SCC9) and Centre Antoine Lacassagne-27 (CAL27) were identified by transmission electron microscope and western blot. Exosome-mediated lncRNA PART1, microRNA-17-5p(miR-17-5p) and suppressor of cytokine signaling 6(SOCS6) RNA expressions were assessed by quantitative reverse ...

Investigation of the value of hematological biomarkers in the clinical differential diagnosis of IgG4-RD
This study aimed to discover new biomarkers that can help for disease diagnosis and its differential diagnosis by reviewing the relationships between neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI).METHODS: Thirty IgG4- RD, 38 granulomatous polyangiitis (GPA), and 46 sarcoidosis patients presenting to the Rheumatology Clinic meeting the criteria of 2019 American College of Rheumatology, 2012 International Chapel Hill and 1999 American Thoracic Society meeting, respectively, and 27 healthy control subjects were incl...

Can development of asthma and bronchial hyperreactivity be reduced by subcutaneous immunotherapy in adult patients with allergic rhinitis?
In this study, data was recorded for patients with a mite and/or grasses/cereals pollen allergy who were tested for BHR before planned SCIT, and who had allergic rhinitis, with or without asthma. The SCIT group was selected as those who received SCIT for at least one year. The control group was selected from those who were scheduled to receive SCIT but were waived and still receiving medication. Symptom scores, prick test results, PC20 levels (methacholine challenge that is a provocative concentration causing a 20% fall in FEV1), and the presence of asthma were recorded and compared with data from at least one year after t...
