Budd-Chiari syndrome - various etiologies and imagistic findings. A pictorial review.
Authors: Iliescu L, Toma L, Mercan-Stanciu A, Grumeza M, Dodot M, Isac T, Ioanitescu S Abstract Budd Chiari syndrome defines an obstruction of the hepatic venous outflow. Primary causes include pro-coagulant states resulting in venous thrombosis, while secondary Budd Chiari syndrome appears in conditions associated with extrinsic compression of the hepatic veins or tumor invasion. Clinical presentation is greatly varied, from incidentally discovered asymptomatic thrombosis to fulminant liver failure due to hepatic congestion. Abdominal ultrasonography is the key diagnostic tool of Budd Chiari syndrome. This pictori...

Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in pancreatic masses with inconclusive radiologic workup - a case series and short review of the literature.
We present three cases in which EUS was decisive in establishing the correct diagnosis. Case 1: A 74-year-old female was hospitalized because of acute pancreatitis. Medical history, CT and MRI gave no clue to etiology, but EUS diagnosed a small pancreatic tumor. Case 2: A female patient was admitted because of abdominal pain and weight loss. While MRI suspected a pancreatic tumor, EUS showed typical features of autoimmune pancreatitis. Case 3: A 50-year-old patient was hospitalized with cachexia, ascites and pulmonary embolism. At first, a pancreatic tumor was suspected, but EUS showed a cystic lesion with a solid componen...

Logistic models and artificial intelligence in the sonographic assessment of adnexal masses - a systematic review of the literature.
Authors: Grigore M, Popovici RM, Gafitanu D, Himiniuc L, Murarasu M, Micu R Abstract Adnexal masses are common, yet challenging, in gynecological practice. Making the differential diagnosis between their benign and malignant condition is essential for optimal surgical management, but reliable pre-surgical differentiation is sometimes difficult using clinical features, ultrasound examination, or tumor markers alone. A possible way to improve the diagnosis is using artificial intelligence (AI) or logistic models developed based on compiling and processing clinical, ultrasound, and tumor marker data together. Ample re...

The role of intracardiac echocardiography in reducing radiation exposure during atrial fibrillation ablation
CONCLUSIONS: The use of ICE lowers radiation exposure in AF catheter ablation from the beginning of the learning curve, without any difference in terms of acute safety or efficacy. Aware-ness towards closest to zero radiation exposure during electrophysiology procedures should increase in order to achieve better protection for both patient and medical staff.PMID:33793693 | DOI:10.11152/mu-2888
