An overview of ultrasound-derived radiomics and deep learning in liver
Med Ultrason. 2023 Aug 22. doi: 10.11152/mu-4080. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOver the past few years, developments in artificial intelligence (AI), especially in radiomics and deep learning, have enabled the extraction of pathophysiology-related information from varied medical imaging and are progressively transforming medical practice. AI applications are extending into domains previously thought to be accessible only to human experts. Recent research has demonstrated that ultrasound-derived radiomics and deep learning represent an enticing opportunity to benefit preoperative evaluation and prognostic monitoring of dif...

Four-year imaging follow-up of a homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia patient: atherosclerosis ingravescence and coronary flow velocity reserve reduced gradually. Case report.
Authors: Jiang B, Yang Y, Wang L, Gao F, Jiao J, Li R Abstract Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) is a rare heredity disease in which severe cardiovascular atherosclerosis develops from birth due to severe low density lipoprotein-receptor (LDL-R) defects inherited from both heterozygouscarriers of FH (HeFH) parents. This case describes a HoFH patient who underwent medical imaging examination for 4 years over a course of treatment. In addition to the imaging techniques which demonstrated the development of cardiovascular atherosclerosis ingravescent, transthoracic Doppler echocardiography noninvasively ...

Subclinical myocardial impairment in SLE: insights from novel ultrasound techniques and clinical determinants.
CONCLUSION: Systolic longitudinal and diastolic performance impairments are frequent findings in SLE patients without overt cardiovascular disease. Cumulative organ damage, disease duration, APS, and hypertension are major determinants for early heart involvement in SLE patients. PMID: 26962554 [PubMed - in process]

Relationship of side dominance and ultrasonographic measurements of pronator quadratus muscle along with handgrip and pinch strength.
CONCLUSIONS: A statistically significant difference exists between dominant and non-dominant hands in CSA and muscle thickness measured by US in both right and left handed volunteers, and this is correlated with handgrip strength. Hand dominance should be considered to compare healthy and affected sites during US of PQ while investigating for occult fractures of distal forearm or PQ atrophy due to anterior interosseous nerve injury. Can diagnostic ultrasound scanners be a potential vector of opportunistic bacterial infection?
CONCLUSIONS: Contamination not only affects parts of diagnostic equipment placed in direct contact with the patient, but also, those surfaces that only medical personnel have had contact with. PMID: 27622409 [PubMed - in process]

Ultrasonography as an integrated tool in clinical decision-making in the Emergency Department.
CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasonography as an integrated tool in the clinical examination algorithm allowed the identification of non-critical patients who required emergency surgery (20.63%). The integration of point-of-care ultrasound into the clinical examination allows the management of emergency patients through the ranking of decisions: hospital admission for surgery and medical treatment, other diagnostic investigations, referral to outpatient care and family physician. Adrenal glands transabdominal ultrasonography - pictorial essay.
We present the normal aspects and various transabdominal ultrasonography findings of the adrenal glands, both common and rare. Even though ultrasound examination is operator and patient dependent, we consider the examination of the adrenal glands very important, due to relatively frequent incidental detection of an adrenal mass. Performance of lung ultrasonography for the diagnosis of communityacquired pneumonia in hospitalized children.
CONCLUSIONS: In our opinion, our findings together withprevious ones available in the literature recommend LUS as a valuable investigation for the diagnosis of community-acquiredpneumonia in children. PMID: 28845493 [PubMed - in process]

Is Contrast Enhanced Ultrasonography a useful tool in a beginner's hand? How much can a Computer Assisted Diagnosis prototype help in characterizing the malignancy of focal liver lesions?
CONCLUSIONS: The most frequent lesions misdiagnosed at CEUS were FNH and HCC. The CAD prototype is a good comparing tool for a beginner operator that can be developed to assist the diagnosis. In order to increase the classification rate, the CAD system for FLL in CEUS must integrate the clinical data. PMID: 28845489 [PubMed - in process]

High-resolution ultrasonography in assessing temporomandibular joint disc position.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on our results, high-resolution ultrasonography showed high sensitivity, specificity and accuracy in the diagnosis of TMJ disc displacement. It could be a valuable imaging technique in assessing TMJ disc position. The diagnostic value of high-resolution ultrasonography depends strictly on the examiner's skills and on the equipment used. Clinical and sonographic characteristics of Warthin-like variant papillary thyroid carcinomas.
CONCLUSIONS: WVPTC is a rare variant of PTCs with favorable outcomes. Very hypoechoic echogenicity, solid or almost complete solid composition are the vital indicators for biopsy, even though the nodule may be wider-than-tall and have a lack of punctuate echoic foci.
